Interesting thought exercise. Not perfect, by any stretch, but I was surprised by how far economically I'd moved to the left (I track almost exactly on the New Liberal Party). I think this could have been greatly improved by weighting issues and by adding a few extra answers, but not a bad quick quiz.

Odd, they said I'm most closely aligned with progressive despite literally being closer to American Labor by a significant margin and about equal with New Liberal.

I merely found it interesting that in a completely unimportant and unscientific NYT quiz, if there was such a thing as the Progressive Party, the largest plurality of that small percentage of the American electorate would hail from the South. How about you don’t put words in my mouth and assume sh-t? Makes you look like an as-hole.

I don't think he was being an icehole either. The South's big Progressive share is a function of the South's overall numbers (which is why they are so high across all parties). And I will admit that I was very surprised those numbers are so high it translates into a plurality of Progressives.

I assume it's an artifact of grouping VA, FL, and TX and all in the same "South" category, which does not really make current cultural sense.

The QAnon-spewing California dad accused of killing his two young children with a spearfishing gun in Mexico because he thought they had “serpent DNA” has been indicted, federal officials said Wednesday.

The married surf school owner allegedly kidnapped his 2-year-old son and 10-month-old daughter from the family’s home in Santa Barbara on Aug. 7, authorities previously said. He drove the children over the border in a Mercedes Sprinter until he reached Rosarito, in Baja California, according to court paperwork.

It was in the coastal resort town that Coleman allegedly stabbed the children in their chests with the spearfishing gun and hid their bodies in some brush, an FBI affidavit filed in the grisly case states.

It wasn't meant as condescending, my intention was to just poke a little fun because you constantly remind us that the South is not the hellhole we all think of it as. It felt like you were doing that here so I wanted to volley that back over the net. Sorry if that came off too harsh. Wasn't meant to be.

I'm assuming that's because the number of people in the South who would read the NYT, let alone contribute to a poll from it, would skew fairly liberal in the first place.

It's actually more simply demographics. The South has more people than the other 3 regions, so they will inherently make up a larger share of each group.

Remember, the state with the most Democrats outside of California is Texas.

Yeah. I didn’t think the Progressive Party would be 34% in the South. 38% of the electorate is in the South, so that already indicates soft numbers for the Progressive Party. That said, I figured it’d be even lower, and somewhere like the West, representing 23% of the population, would have more than 25% of the Progressive Party. Again, it’s unscientific, it’s unimportant, and it doesn’t represent anything meaningful. My earlier comment was certainly not meant to be an indicator that I think the South will be anywhere near a champion of progressive rights, when clearly we can’t even get women’s rights, well, right.
