  • God bless Penzey's Spices. They're holding a very specific sale this weekend:

It's real. I got the promotional email. Also, their spices are really top notch. Noticeably better than what you'll get in a supermarket. Their cinnamon and vanilla especially should be staples in every household.

              • An epiphany of sorts, though I realize HCA did not intend to use the child's utterance as a means to end the illusion but as a device to explain how it survived as long as t had.

McCarthyism came to a fairly quick end, the turning point often described as the hearing at which Joe Welch asked, "[H]ave you left no sense of decency?" What will be the pivotal point in Dump's permanent decline and when will it happen? If political self interest is what is preventing his supporters from openly recognizing that he has no clothes, will it be a gradual wearing away of his grip over a couple of election cycles or will his evil influence just collapse as rats jump his ship more or less en masse? God knows there are enough nobles out there who continue to benefit from his idiocy and enough ignorant serfs to continue to serve him, but it seems political support in the GOP is showing some cracks.

I'm a sucker for hope. Give it to me between the eyes, Scooby.

                • There will be no defining line. We either devolve into full-blown civil war, or Trumpism just slowly withers away over time as its goals and intentions fail to develop.

Repubs don't seize the House midterms, and Trump-supported candidates get shellacked, that dissolution will quicken. Storm-Trumpers will never see the light, however. They'll just pretend to forget all about him, forget they ever were part of his supporters, pretend like nothing ever happened, like W's supporters did.

The opposite, and the pace toward civil war increases.

                  • What a bizarre story. The guy is an absolute lunatic, but I'm also curious (and didn't see anything talking to it in this article) about the nature of the alleged child porn. Lots of people take bath pictures of their kids, for example, and it doesn't necessarily become ... evil. This guy is clearly derranged so he doesn't exactly get the benefit of the doubt, but I'm curious all the same.

I think I agree. I had hoped that Biden's "my god man, do you ever shut up" moment a the debate would help, but... nothing does against Trump. The number of normally-disqualifying things he's said over the past 5-10 years alone is incredible.

I have no doubt this guy has the full gross tranche of Thai toddler porn -- it is On Brand for RWNJs -- but "child porn" is like terrorism in 00's, drug kingpin in the 80s, or communist in the 50s. It's the witchcraft of our times -- the accusation is equivalent to conviction and authorities know this and fully exploit this.

The Nazi's didn't succeed earlier because most people had a more secure tether to reality 40, 50, or more years ago.

For instance it helped that the average person simply BELIEVED that the reporting on Richard Nixon was correct once it was verified and corroborated by source after source. Today we are ****ed beyond all hope because an entire segment of our country does not believe things that are without even the most infinitesimal doubt TRUE. How do you counter that? In 1974 the majority of us were at least dealing with the same set of facts. You might not have thought Nixon needed to resign based on what he did, or in fact you may have thought devious tricks were part of the game he needed to play. But you did not deny the basic facts of Watergate.

Now, even the basic facts are not believed by many people. Hell, some on the left don't even believe things about Covid that are empirically provable and instead overstate the dangers. This is why our politics fail and will continue to fail. Until we get back to a point where the vast majority of us deal with facts as facts, we continue down the path of ruin.

Yes, yes. The problem in this country is that we’ve taken a killer of 850k Americans *too seriously.*

If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?

You clearly missed that point badly. No one should ever accuse me of not taking Covid-10 very seriously. But there plenty ofprogressives who often overstate the risk of covid, such as believing it to be far more dangerous to children than it has proven to be, or thinking outdoor transmission was a huge issue when the risk was far less than that of indoor transmission. Before the 2020 election fully a third of all democratic leaning voters believed there would be fraud, even though there was no more evidence before the election that there was much risk of it, just like in the aftermath that was proven to be completely true. And this is not a "both sides are bad" post. One side is clearly bad while the other is not, but the other side has proven itself to at least be susceptible to the same misinformation issues the right lives and breathes on.
