Well we spent 4 days in Edinburgh (with a day trip to England to check out Alnwick Castle, then drove to Perth and Inverness, followed by Loch Ness and the Isle of Skye, then drove back to Stirling and finally back to Edinburgh to fly home. If you’re not into cabin rentals, such as at the various cabin resorts, but like the state parks, then I would suggest renting a spot within Park Rapids and making the 20-30 minute drive to Itasca. I’d say no more than two nights would be necessary. Talking with the people who own the cabin resort where we stayed, week of July 4th and the last two weeks of August are their slowest weeks of the summer.
