I was thinking more the 80’s and early 90s. Back when Williams was top dog.

Ferrari has been around since the start of F1 and before that Enzo won with Alfa in the 30s. But there have been long stretches where they sucked. McLaren and Willams are close to them with 20-30 fewer seasons because of that.

    • Despite the top two being who I expected, that was a wild and unpredictable qualifying. Lewis saving himself on the final lap twice, four different teams holding pole in the final two minutes, and a bit of a wild card for Sunday with Checo crashing essentially meaning RB can only get 25 points this weekend. RB will likely get that, maybe even 26 with the fastest lap, though Max has been rubbing the wall quite a bit this weekend.

      • Leclerc gets a three place penalty for impeding Norris during qualifying, so he goes from P3 to P6. Top three starting grid for tomorrow are now:

        Verstappen-Alonso
        Ocon-Sainz
        Hamilton-Leclerc

Maybe Alonso can get a good start tomorrow, but based on the 2021 start Max can cut off him off on the start fairly easily.

The real highlight of that news is that Norris was even on the track to take part in Q3. Amazing work by the McLaren mechanics to get him out.

But Max doesn’t have to be on the edge for the race. Monaco or not, the Red Bull is still superior under race conditions. And it’s Monaco, he can drive 90% and be impassable.

The only question is going to be the start and clean pit stops. He doesn’t need to drive like a maniac on Sunday.

            • Only took 12 laps for a Ferrari Moment.

Or not. Gonna try to go with a partial nose here.

If only Aston Martin had gone inters... Would have been a much more interesting finale. And Max still nearly ran himself into the wall a few times after the change. I'm sure almost all the drivers were having those close calls, but Max had the time to be extra careful and still seemed to be pushing in areas he didn't need to be.

Could the current F1 cars run the oval at Indy? Or would there be safety issues in regards to aerodynamics? Obviously they ran the road circuit when they used to have the Grand Prix in Indy, but for awhile the 500 was part of the F1 schedule, granted it was seven decades ago now. I know Jimmie Johnson was afraid of doing ovals during his short run in Indy Car, though he did eventually do the 500. Not sure how many, if any, of the other ovals he ran.

                  • IndyCar is very lucky... Wheel completely came off and the tire flew over the catch fence and barely missed landing in the grandstand. There were a few people walking in the concourse area but it looks like it missed them as well. That was almost a horrific disaster.

We were at a 500 in the 80s when a flying tire killed a fan. We learned that as we were driving away. Pretty terrifying.

Can, sure. Being practical and safe doing it is a different question. It would be interesting to see them do it, but I suspect it would be a Monza trim but less.

At least the green-white-checker finished within regulation.

INDYCAR needs to revisit putting tethers on the wheels or raising the catch fence by at least 15 feet before another disaster happens.

also, they absolutely need to outlaw the dragon/snake moves the leaders make down the straights. It’s ridiculous. Also, crowding cars toward the pit wall should draw immediate penalties or dq’s. I’d they don’t end that practice we’ll see a car careen over the pit wall and kill a dozen people.

they’ve come a long way with safety but these drivers are out of control now.
