I think there was a re-cut or something later on, that is supposed to be the "good" version, but I haven't seen either one, and cannot comment on the quality of either.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

"Keep your foot hard on the pedal, son never mind them brakes
Let it all hang out, 'cause we got a run to make
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta and there's beer in Texarkana
And we'll bring it back no matter what it takes

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin'
Oh, we gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there
I'm east bound, just watch ol' Bandit run"

For better or for worse, that is a 'Murica movie. Adventure, fun, cowboy wisdom, and even a bit of humanity. The hero shedding his egotistical bravado at times? A classic.

That is a genuinely great quote.

And boy do Southerners not understand the stinger in the tail works both ways.

                    Tolerated? Sure. Loved? Loved?

                    No.

It was a cash dive. Not as bad as some, not a total rape of the original. But... it was pretty bad.

I looked again. There is another Dune coming out this November, the first of a 2-part adaptation of the novel.

One of Mel's lesser known movies that doesn't get much credit today. The story goes that after the movie was done, he had an opportunity to give Hitchcock a private screening before he released it to the public. Hitchcock walked out at the end having not reacted positively in any way, and Mel was worried he was pi55ed. A few days later, the guy sent him a congratulatory card and an entire case of wine.
