  • Just watched Bogdanovich's "Saint Jack". It was pretty good; always liked Ben Gazzara. F-bombs and full frontal on TCM. First time for everything I guess.
A bad cause requires many words.

I haven't been this unsettled by a movie in a while. When something is just too on the nose...

Absolutely amazing. Funny, well shot, well acted by all but Michelle Yeoh especially is divine. Trippy but not hard to follow.

                    • Death on the Nile was fantastic. Another zippy two hours of watching a star cast chew scenery. The stars, the long camera shots, the backgrounds, the blues music. It's another love letter to the Agatha Christie era. Such a fun ride.

Looking forward to the next film!!

                      • I came upon a list of recommended WWII movies and have started in a on a few that I have not seen before except for one:

Rome, Open City (1945). Set in Rome in 1944 this film centers on a resistance fighter trying to escape the city with the help of a Catholic priest. This is part one of a trilogy and while I have yet to watch all three but if the remaining two are as engrossing as this one I will be extremely pleased.

A Man Escaped (1956). A resistance fighter imprisoned in France learns he is to be executed, and sets off on doing all he can to escape. Based upon the writings of former French POW. As good as B&W gets. From my understanding non-actors were used and it works. There is plenty of tension and drama, and despite the fact its minimalist no frame is wasted.

                        In my queue:

                        -The Cranes Are Flying (1957)
-The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) *I’ve seen this one already but it’s been probably 30 years. We visited some of the preserved historical sites along the Kwai in 2019 so I think it’s time to watch this one again.
                        -Army of Shadows (1969)
                        -Ivan’s Childhood (1962)
                        -Where Eagles Dare (1968)
                        -Come and See (1985)
