  • That was a heck of a game. Both the Titans and Bengals had their momentum, only to give it up. Burrow got sacked so many times, I can't remember- for sure a record was set for sacks for a winning QB. The Titans were moving the ball late, only to call two pretty lame plays to give the ball back to the Bengals. The game losing INT was a great defensive play- getting the hand out to tip it.

And it was a game that I reasonably like both teams. So that was fun- lots of really good defense.

    • Another exciting ending! But the Rogers' rate wasn't enough- the 'Niners pulled that one out mostly with special teams. Jimmy G didn't have to do much.

The final combined stat line for the 2 winning quarterbacks in today's division playoff games:

        39/56 479 yards 0 TD 2 INTs 13 Sacks

        National Champions: 1959, 1963, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1997, 2000, 2016

Other than the yardage Burrow put up, how in the world do you win with the rest of those stats? Give a lot of credit to SF's defense, though- they really contained Rogers after the start of the game (which I missed watching the Michigan-Minnesota game).

Yeah, pretty crazy. I watched the first drive and thought Green Bay was going to roll, so I flipped around and watched some curling. I turn it back over and SF was driving near the end of the first half, and then saw Jimmy G's INT, the deep ball to Jones, and then the blocked FG. I went back to curling, and then came back when it was 10-3 with SF driving midway through the fourth, when they turned it over on downs in the redzone. Then the blocked punt, return TD, the Packers' 3-and-out, and then the final drive. Very satisfying to watch the Packers lose in that fashion.

Another crazy stat: San Francisco had 3 drives into the Red Zone, and managed a total of 3 points from those drives.

aaron rodgers should've done more of his own research on the 49ers defense

              • Looks like Kaaron Rodgers is gonna boycott the Super Bowl after all.
What kind of cheese are you planning to put on top?

                    • Prior to the game a long time SF friend told me that frigid Packer weather might be just the thing for the Niners. They can't win a shootout with Jimmy G, and their D line and linebackers are their strength, so a grinder game was their best hope. Pretty hard to anticipate two blocked kicks, though. Nice to see Rogers get cancelled in his own home.

Should be some entertaining fb today.

                        • Just watching the highlights again- and just realized that Rogers blew chunks on that last drive they had. The time was perfect for them to do exactly what they let SF do- drive down the field and end the game with a score. But I'm betting that 3rd and 10 home run swing was called at the line- which wasn't even close to a reception. All they really needed to do was short plays and keep the ball on the field- and they were able to run and do short passes. Instead, they went with big plays to move the ball quickly- which resulted in the exact same thing for most of the night- not much.

It would be interesting to know, but it sure seems that Rogers ruined his own game.

Garoppolo Rogered Rogers on that last drive.

                            • Crazy factoid of the morning: assuming Aaron Rodgers wins the MVP this season, it will continue a streak going back to Kurt Warner in 1999 of the MVP failing to win the Super Bowl...

2001: Kurt Warner - St. Louis Rams (lost Super Bowl)
2002: Rich Gannon - Oakland Raiders (lost Super Bowl)
2003: Co-Winners - Peyton Manning - Indianapolis Colts (lost AFC Championship); Steve McNair - Tennessee Titans (lost Divisional Round)

2012: Adrian Peterson - Minnesota Vikings (lost Wild Card Round)
2013: Peyton Manning - Denver Broncos (lost Super Bowl)

2016: Matt Ryan - Atlanta Falcons (lost Super Bowl)
2017: Tom Brady - New England Patriots (lost Super Bowl)
2018: Patrick Mahomes - Kansas City Chiefs (lost AFC Championship)
2019: Lamar Jackson - Baltimore Ravens (lost Divisional Round)
2020: Aaron Rodgers - Green Bay Packers (lost NFC Championship)
                              2021: ???

Perhaps equally crazy, 9 NFL MVP's in this time span have made the Super Bowl, but are 0-9 in the Super Bowl.
