I still remember the "underground" hype leading up to their first release which was 2001. The internet was still in its infancy compared to today, social media was nearly non-existent, and who are these guys?

One day I somehow got a link to a web-site for the band that was somewhat interactive (again compared with today barely) and you could explore around, see certain things, but Albarn and crew were very smart about how little they revealed. I was a fan of Blur and had no idea there was even a connection.

Long story short it was brilliantly handled and made all the better by the fact the music is legit. I and some friends went to see them in Chicago in 2002 and it was quite the spectacle. In 2010 in Minneapolis they had completely perfected their craft and it was one hell of a time.

      • In the "why is this trending on Twitter?" file, apparently some DJs/staff at a Vancouver radio station were fired and their colleagues have responded by playing Rage Against The Machine's "Killing In The Name Of" on repeat all day, and still going as of writing this post.

I guess you can call in a request.

Great video, love for Steve Gadd but not the Purdie shuffle? Fagen hated shuffles but Purdie snuck it in Good to see the love for early Chicago also. Now I need to find Weather Report, its on vinyl somewhere here

                        • I went to see The Black Crowes last night, it’s their Shake Your Money Maker tour, performing that whole album and a few other of their favorites. The encore was their take on Bowie’s Moonage Daydream, but taking it to a blues rock feel really lost something.

That said, we are clearly moving into the Year of Bowie tributes, between his work showing up on the soundtracks of a number of movies and shows, and the Bowie biopic, he’s getting some more well deserved recognition and reintroduction to younger generations.

The ability to go from "I'd love to turn you on..." to "woke up, fell out of bed" effortlessly is something not likely duplicated by others.

Then again, Sgt Pepper's is my favorite album of theirs.
