Oh but there i$, and the accounting $ay$ you win. :-)

BTW, I love that performance of Carmen -- everything about it. (Weirdly enough I love the set design the most.) And unlike many operas on film, it's ****ing baller - it works.

The greatest voice Carmens are not the greatest performances, but when I'm rollin' in my 64 all I have is the voice, and that was the question posed.

Makes me think, though, about what's the best aria to summer joyride to for me. Gotta think about that when I'm not methed out on antivirals at 4 am. I was wired when I wrote this / Forgive me if it goes astray. I am, I just realized, essentially high right now, which means I even lecture when I'm high. Handy will be so happy.

I imagine this was an homage to the GOAT? =^)

fyi I very much appreciate your input on this topic.

As for your question about greatest aria for a joyride? I doubt I'm as steeped in this as others but I know I could cruise along to Largo al factotum on the more obvious side, perhaps less obvious Cortigianni vil razza.

The one that comes to mind is Traviata's "drink, laugh, ****" aria.

              • TIL Willow Weep for Me was written about the trees outside Anne Rommell's room at Radcliffe.

It was rejected by most of the big houses because it was considered too complicated for mass audiences, was dedicated to Gershwin who was being shunned, and because it would "never be anything."

It has become one of the most covered and quoted American Song Book standards. In the hands of geniuses it is one of the most beautiful songs ever written by an American not named Ellington.

Purple Rain > most pop music since 2010.

                            Very true.

Prince is better than at least 80% of popular music in history, and 90% since, well, Prince.
