a.k.a. "the unofficial house band of Portland." For a time the official house band of the legendary and wonderful Crystal Ballroom.

Not my thing but they were extremely popular on the West coast. For a while they, the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, and Everclear were all anybody east of Mt. Hood knew about Portland music.

                  • cc: MT - not sure if I ever recommended Over the Rhine or Cowboy Junkies to you but a recent dive through my back catalog brought them up and I thought of you and that you might enjoy. OtR especially went through a lot of changes - more edgy early then slowly more melodic and instrumental over time.

To no one in particular - really glad I not only finally started using Spotify but went with the Premium package. I swear I've spent half my waking hours the past week liking artists/songs/albums and creating playlists including for my wife who would never want to touch anything like that herself. Now I just create what I know she likes and share to her. Brilliant!

My album playlist already has 4,722 songs for 336 hours of music ha!

I have "Ohio," which I believe you called "mood music," but nothing else.

                        Never heard Cowboy Junkies.

                          • I don't expect a lot of people to be intrigued by this, but as a Beatles fan it's fascinating. First thing that stands out when listening to this is it validates how much better they became when they replaced Pete Best with Ringo (Till There Was You being prime example #1), how much they were influenced by American music, how John, George and Paul were each individually incredible singers but their harmonies were even better, and how good Paul was at bass. I don't listen to much of their music pre-Help! or Rubber Soul, but there's enough early nuggets to see how and why they became legends. And of course the addition of George Martin didn't hurt at all.

                            Beatles first demo/audition.

Also Let It Be how Paul wanted it to be released instead of the version produced by Phil Spector. It's infinitely better.

I've also been listening to Odessey & Oracle by The Zombies. It's sublime.
