I'm going to mention that to my insurance agent next week during my insurance review meeting that I called after my 700 dollar a year Property Insurance increase.

That's ridiculous. I agree, I am much less affected.

CNBC had the Chief Financial Officer for the State of Florida on this morning. Said that despite Florida properties making up 7% of national insurance carriers portfolios, over 70% of claims / litigation were coming from FLA. That's why Insurance companies backed out.

He claims some special legislative sessions were held late last year and earlier this year which closed a lot of the litigation loopholes which should be more welcoming to insurance companies. Said some were looking to expand to / return to Florida, but were obviously waiting for hurricane season to be over first.

Also promoted the *SoCiALiSt!!* state operated home insurance company "Citizens" which provides "last chance" insurance to homeowners who have been denied by private insurance companies.

From 2020 to 2021, my property taxes went up 39% (with a 40.8% increase in tax assessment). Then from 2021 to 2022, taxes were up another 22.9% and assessment up 35.6%. Assessment finally went down a small amount from 2022 to 2023 (I want to say maybe -3%). I don't recall if I have seen how that will affect taxes. Thankfully, I haven't seen too much change in insurance. It did go up but I dont think it was much. Overall, I think I saw like a $115-$125/month increase total from when I first started payments in 2017. So nothing to terrible. I can't imagine a $400/month increase.

I have several friends who went. They left the morning before the rain hit. Got lucky. Sort of. It is an absolute **** show though. Basically nothing is happening. People can't even ride a bike around the ground is so nasty and just a mud pile. And more rain has been falling it looks like. Tonight the man was supposed to burn but that is unlikely. It is and will continue to be an absolute **** show for a while.

One friend went in early as they were a volunteer. First day there and her generator malfunctioned and caught fire. Her truck and trailer burned to the ground. Thankfully she was ok and her purse containing her ID, passport and credit cards survived. Lots of people rallied and made sure she was taken care of while there and got home ok eventually.
