            ****, ****, ****.

I had the great pleasure of seeing Charlie Watts and his Large Band at The Channel in Boston back around 1987, '88, and it was glorious.

Charlie had one of those smiles, that really, the corners of his mouth turned down the bigger the smile. And he was sitting back there, between two other drummers, just beaming away as the band worked their way through big band jazz tunes from the '30's-60's.

A true English gentleman, was Charlie Watts.

The heart of the storm. Or the anchor. Or whatever you want to call him. The soul of that band.

Now, can The stones use his death to finally, just stop. Please. Haven't you got enough money? Bill's retired, Charlie's dead, and you're all pushing 80. Just let it go.

              • the greatest Charlie Watts story.

Apparently, whether on tour or something, a drunk Mick Jagger phoned up Charlie's hotel room in the middle of the night, asking "where's my drummer?"

Charlie got up, showered and shaved, got dressed to the nines, went down to Jagger's room, and when Mick answered the door, Charlie punched him in the face, and said, "don't ever call me your drummer again. You're my ****ing singer!"

                  • Funny - I heard that story for the first time about 6 months ago, and one of the first tweets I saw about his death also reference the same. Clearly then they announced he would not be joining them on this tour they knew something was up. I agree with rufus - shut it down.

Another fact. He was married for 23 years. After being married to another woman for 29 years. With 10 years in between.

Yeah he was on Grace and Frankie and was looking very old there too (which I guess you can say about anyone on that show but I digress). I feel like in the last couple decades he also did voicework on half a million things.
