Pretty sure that's just scooby and the dude from Notre Dame saying that on here. Haven't seen it from anyone else that I can recall.

Not sure if anyone noticed, but a mom was convicted of manslaughter for giving her murdering son a gun. Happened just recently in Michigan.

Register ALL firearms (and get rid of the home-brew, non-serial # stuff). I'd be fine with outlawing aftermarket modification to any firing/internal mechanism. You get what you get off the shelf and that's the end of it.

I'm also for people needing to claim responsibility for their pew pews. 100% support the MI ruling that came down this week. Also support that the owner is responsible for any crime committed with their firearm UNLESS it can be proven that it was stored in a safe/secure manner. Also bring the hammer down on people who store a handgun in their nightstand and that firearm ends up in the hands of a 5 year old who was exploring the house.

Ammo hording is the one area I wouldn't mind something being done, but I don't know how to go about it. I know trap shooters that fire 10,000+ rounds/year. I also know people with "tactical shotguns" that have a similar amount of ammo sitting in their residence collecting dust. They are not the same. But both possess a pallet of shotgun ammo.

Seems like a reasonable position to me as to firearms. I would probably be a bit stricter on the exceptions to strict liability. I would want to specifically enumerate what exactly is "a safe/secure manner." Putting it in a gun safe that can be easily broken into...not going to cut it.

Also, and I think this is where you were going, but I would have it be strict liability for whatever crime was committed with the firearm. If I saw the news story correct about the woman in Michigan, she was only convicted of manslaughter. I would have her convicted of "x" number of counts of murder.

Ammunition is a tricky one; however, I would require registration for the ammunition too. And I would have the same strict liability for ammunition as firearms.

            • I think registration only helps after the fact. I would have a waiting period and have better background checks. There should be a dedicated group within ATF that follows up when something seems dodgy with a gun purchase. You need an approach that is more proactive than reactive.

You could not be more wrong about that where I am concerned. I am both a firearm owner and a concealed pistol license holder. But I am also for ultra strict regulation of firearms, limits on magazines (I'd give up my 15 round mags if that's what the law said) and an absolute ban on "assault style" weapons capable of doing the kind or rapid killing that all of our mass shooters love. I also favor people being able to prove they can use their firearm at least as proficiently as we expect our drivers to be before we license them, and making them go through training to prove that. And while I support the notion of private ownership of firearms (duh, I own firearms) I am also on record as believing the second amendment has far outlived any usefulness it may have once provided and wish we would repeal it in favor of sensible laws. But that doesn't mean I believe in taking all the guns away, and certainly not from responsible, safe gun owners. Which I most certainly am.

I have also never called RaceBoarder an A hole, and frankly can't recall seeing a post of theirs that would lead me to even think that.

Yeah but trap loads are small and low energy. Most have caps on weight and velocity. It's a half step up from rock salt. (Lethal, to be sure, at some range.)

This is the smartest thing I've seen you post. But the rest of it I disagree with assuming your premise is that registration isn't necessary or doesn't help.

if your point is "we need registration AND..." then I agree.

Also "Use a bow" with regard to hunting. I've been met with opposition when propositions have been made to ban ALL long-guns and I've been against that. I've posted several times that I'm fine with 5+1 capacity for long guns an 9+1 for handguns, but been met with opposition who only want one shot and feel that is all one should need in ANY hunting situation (to which there are many regular occurrences in hunting where multiple shots are needed).

I get that this isn't a cut and dry issue, but Ive been gang-banged by several on this board who seem to think I'm advocating for Jim-Bob to be able to own a Howitzer when pointing out flaws like this.
Most of my family hunts. My dad quit after a drunk guy tried to line him up and he noped out after that. A large faction of my family, for reasons I’ve never heard, moved to bow hunting for deer years ago. I think they just like the challenge. Of course still guns for duck and turkey.

                          • I'm not for wholesale gun bans at all, but I like this quote from Ozzy Osbourne nonetheless:

I keep hearing this fu###ng thing that guns don't kill people, but people kill people. If that's the case, why do we give people guns when they go to war? Just send the people

                              • Surprised they couldn't squeeze a Jonathan Tur(d)ley headline in there. "It's time for liberals to admit that Biden's cabinet should invoke the 25th Amendment".
