Nope. BJ was part of the "failed" policies one year prior.

The US economy is something to behold. New figures show GDP grew even faster than originally thought, revised to 5.2% annual rate. https://www.axios.com/2023/11/29/gdp...revised-growth

                  • Yeah it was $2.95 around here for a bit. Fluctuates now but always around $3.

-NY Times and Politico dual expose

I would say I am joking, but every time we post some joke like this it actually happens so I am just going to accept that the media is going to say stuff like this and then wonder unironically why their readers don't trust Biden.

And I know the usual refrain is "Democrats are bad at messaging" but that isn't it. It is amazing the double speak you will see in any article about the economy. Even ones with honest headlines like say Axios or Vox will talk about the good news then make sure to add a couple paragraphs of how things probably will go bad next quarter (the Biden Recession is the new Trump Infrastructure Week!) with varying levels of doom and gloom basically offsetting the good news and making it seem worse than it is. And it is not just telling both sides, it is a complete repudiation in many cases, the type of spin you are more likely to see from opinion columnists not actual journalists. Then, when questioned about it, they just can't seem to figure out why people don't feel better about the economy than they do.

An interesting offshoot of this though is that many observers are starting to go back decades and see if there are other examples of this. The big one of course is the Hillary "Deplorables" comment which all of the media and commentators covered to high heaven. (according to studies 18x more than Trump and his "vermin" comment which went friggin viral) It seems post 9/11 (especially with Hillary) that all media really made sure to never make Dems, especially big name Dems, look too positive. When Hillary got pneumonia and was MIA trying to recover the press ate her for lunch over it. Talked about how it ruined her as a candidate/Senator, made her look weak, and what/why is she hiding. When Trump got COVID (until he decided to check himself out and risk his and other people's health) the media on all sides pretty much called a ceasefire on ripping him. (which he of course ruined by acting like a jackarse) Or how about whenever Trump did anything somewhat ok every journalist fell all over themselves to say "this is the time when Trump became President" meanwhile that is all Biden is doing and they can't write his eulogy fast enough. (despite his policies leading to not only Dem wins but making things demonstrably better)

Maybe one day we will get a "We Owe Joe Biden An Apology" article from Politico like we did with DeSantis during COVID. That one sure aged well...

If Trump somehow wins next year I dont want to hear one media type whining about their safety or how he is harming the free press. This is what they wrought.

The content is meaningless. From publishing to radio to the idiot box to movies to sports to "news" to music to streaming it's all the same conveyor belt, exchanging our passive, bovine, slack-jawed attention for ad dollars.

For them, it's raising a crop. For us, it's all just self-medicating.

                          • What's annoying about the typical discussion about the "economy" is that by all accounts the "economy" is humming along. GDP has been fantastic of late, the IR is 3.2% against an average of 3.3% going back to (I think) 1914 or something like that. It's predicted to go down again into 2025 as well.

Yes many people are living paycheck to paycheck, but that's always going to happen and it's not going to get better until DC walks back much of the damage done by Reaganomics.

What the real conversation should be about is not the economy but wages, and why corporations continue to absurdly award their top executives at the expense of 90% of the people on their payroll.

                            • It's like weather vs climate.

The economic weather is excellent. The US is well above other Wetsern nations, GDP is up, inflation is down, we're doing great. That is due to Biden's policies.

The economic climate is a disaster. Inequality is rampant, the middle class has been destroyed, capitalism is unconstrained, the rich are pounding the poor in the as-s. That is due to Republican policies and the cowardice* of the Democrats in opposing and reversing them.

The problem is those corporations own the media. NBC/MSNBC/CNBC is owned by Comcast/Universal, ABC is owned by Di$ney, CBS is owned by Paramount, CNN is owned by WBD...the fix is in.

Even shows on "New Media" can't be honest...ask Jon Stewart.
