She's told him no several times.

              • Apparently the Mormon Church is having a giant rift... the Church famous for blindly following their "living prophet" because he speaks for God are rejecting his pleas to get vaccinated and calling him a false prophet who can't speak for God.

I'm surprised by this because I think of the Mormon Church as a country club like the Episcopalians. The high church of dollar cost averaging.

She followed it up in another TikTok saying that the current LDS Prophet was a pretty renowned surgeon and medical researcher before he became involved in the church. So to have such a rift caused by their following "a second cult leader instead of their first cult leader..." is pretty dramatic.

                      • Since all the pre-science religions are played out, I non-ironically think this would make a good syncretic post-science religion:

It doesn't have to be true (whatever that means). As with any faith, the practice is the religion; the tenets are just slalom gates. As with everything else humans create -- languages, laws, morals -- truth is whatever we say it is. So let's call this true, and make a better world by practicing it.

This was inevitable. Mormons are taught that their leaders can be fallible, especially on secular matters. They used to be taught that polygamy was a sort of misguided earthly creation of Brigham Young. It's only in recent decades that the LDS church have formally acknowledged that Joseph Smith started the practice, but they are careful to heavily downplay that aspect of his life and teachings and still ascribe much of the expansion of the practice and subsequent controversy to Young.

Plus, Mormons have an automatic distrust for anything to do with the feds. So a bunch of them, especially rural ones, choosing to ignore the current president's call to get the vaccine is really not that surprising.

                          • I love Western conservatives' hatred of the feds since the only reason Western states are viable is the federal government.

It's like if the Dutch hated levee engineering.
