  • I just did a quick spin through CapFriendly looking at goaltending on NHL teams. That said, let's get real ...

Can the Blackhawks finally cut a deal with VGK to get MA Fleury?
CHI is about the only team, roster or dollars, that can make that happen.

And there's no way CHI is going with Delia and PK's little brother as their duo.

VGK has two 2021 second round picks (VGK and NJD).
VGK will probably have to give up both of those and retain at least half of MAF's contract just to get out of cap purgatory.

    • No, wait ...

CHI should deal with WAS for a goalie.

Then CHI could end up with Samsonov and Delia in net.

OK, OK, ... weak attempt. I'll show myself out ...

Remember: I'm the guy who said Brad Bombardir needed a defense partner named Pilot. --> Pilot to Bombardir, ... bombs away!

      • Coyotes dropped their draft pick after finding out he bullied and assaulted a black, developmentally disabled kid in Ohio. Now UND hockey has kicked him off the hockey team.

there are reports the guy continued to harass the victim for two years after the court case. Given that it went to court, und likely knew what he did, sounds like they were ok with it until the coyotes dropped him like a rock and it got out. If this stuff was hidden, how did the coyotes find out so fast?

I'm not certain that's 100% true with respect to UND, although I don't know for certain.

This has been a topic rolling around on siouxsports since at least June, I think, and has been known by the college hockey programs for quite awhile. But I think what was known was this. He was 14 when he committed the horrific act. He went through the juvenile system in Ohio, which probably didn't exact that significant of a punishment. But as far as I can tell, from that point forward (including his time with the USA development program) he had a pretty clean record.

My reaction back in June was, all things being equal, the program didn't really need the distraction. However, I am also a person who believes that when someone, especially a juvenile, commits a bad act, even when it's really bad as this one was, you don't just discard that human being. Some effort has to be made to permit the actor to rehabilitate themselves. So ultimately I concluded that I wasn't going to necessarily be critical of the program for giving him a shot, but the kid had better be on an extremely short leash. If he's caught jaywalking on University Avenue, he's out.

Then, as I understand it, the kid was drafted by the Coyotes. The victims mother then sent the Coyotes a letter in which she talked about the impact on her son, but also indicated that there had been additional instances in the last two years where Miller had bullied the victim.

The Coyotes then cut Miller loose, and today UND did the same.

Now, I don't know if UND, or the Coyotes for that matter, based their decisions on the information provided in the letter from the mother, or if that information was already known or available. If the information was out there or known, obviously UND and the Coyotes should have never given him a shot. Continuing conduct, after he was punished, voids his chance at rehabilitation (at least for now).

On the other hand, if reasonable due diligence didn't reveal anything other than the initial act, then my view is that I'm not going to be critical of the initial decision, but this is the risk you take when you give someone like this a chance.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

          • Makes sense, and so the reports of the continued harassment may be true, and yikes.

I edited my response to ask how the coyotes found out, and I think you addressed that.

I agree kids can’t be punished their whole lives for one mistake, but sounds like this twat didn’t actually Learn and continued to harass.

Harassing developmentally disabled kids is just...wow

No doubt nodak fans and thumpers have a go fund me for him shortly coupled with death threads to the disabled kid and his mom

Don't like the Wild's. It's like twisting the knife.

                    • I really liked Carolina's and I'd say that Colorado's would be my second favorite. Most of the rest were pretty meh for me.

                        I really like Buffalo's too.

Most look really well done. I think the misses are the Ducks, Blues, Red Wings, and Flames.

This. Do I miss those colors? Yes. But putting them with that logo doesn’t work for me.

And it has the ugliest logo in sports on it. I was hoping to buy a cool 3rd from the Wild. Now? Forget about it.

29/31 measure from good to great.

Carolina’s is great, but doesn’t really seem to fit the pattern. The theme of these was to add current colors to throwback (or a new jersey with throwback elements), or a few (like NJ) threw an old color scheme into the mix. Carolina just straight up took the Whalers jersey.

Oilers and Islanders don’t appear much different than their regular ones, but those logos and color schemes always look good so who cares.

Winnipeg’s grey and blue just doesn’t work for the same reason anthracite doesn’t work on a lot of jerseys. For whatever reason designers like to keep the darker colors of the scheme and substitute anthracite for a lighter color, and it subdues everything.

For Detroit, I figured they’d have issues with only red and white to play around with, but that final product is disappointing. Looks like a practice jersey.

                              • Anaheim went there and it’s fabulous.

Dallas and Detroit screwed up royally.

Colorado’s is a crime against humanity.
