  • Congrats to Austin Matthews. It's nice to see the Leafs winning something in June

      • So were there too many men on the ice when Colorado scored the game winner? Will this become the 2022 version of Brett Hull? And why didn't the ref see right away that the puck clearly went into the net?

If Colorado has too many men in that screenshot then so does Tampa.

If you call that a penalty for too many men, you'd have to call that 50 times per game. It's whining.

                • I read something about it but didn't see any video at first of the alleged too many men. Just wondered if it was going to turn into Brett Hull 2.0. After finding a couple of videos I think I would agree. No matter what it had no impact whatsoever on the play. I still want to know why the ref, seemingly positioned well, didn't immediately see the puck in the net. Or at the very least blow the whistle if he lost sight of the puck because it didn't end up where his eyes were anticipating it it to be following the shot.

Having seen it, too, I don't think it will become that. He came on early, sure- but that's missed all the time and it took a while until the puck moved up the ice to where it mattered. I'm sure people will want to go over it again and again, but it is what it is, and it's not up to video replay- if it had, Tampa would certainly risk a penalty to get that call.

Seems that the biggest outcome for that will be that it can be reviewed and there will become more firm distance/time rules for when players change.

The ref did whistle the play when he lost the puck- thought that Vasilevskiy had it under his pad (as did I). They didn't call the goal since nobody noticed the puck was wedged in the top of the net until a Tampa player noticed it- and meekly tried to get it out.

I get that Tampa was mad about the call, but we all saw how the game was going- this was far more likely to happen than Tampa scoring.

                      • As a Red Wings fan, this is child's play compared to when the Penguins had an extra man for almost an entire shift.

God I hope not. I already hate the "team has the puck in zone for 60 seconds and scores. Review for offsides 60 seconds earlier. goal waived off." If they start doing it for every line change that happens prior to a goal, you may as well ban line changes during play because we'll never see a clean goal again.

If they limit offsides/line change review to something that happened within 10 seconds of a goal, maybe I'd be ok with it.

I can’t wait for the NHL to appease people on this next season and the refs call a bunch of penalties then one month in everyone b—ches about the refs calling too many penalties.

People need to realize that the too many men penalty was nothing compared to the two checking from behinds that were not called. At least both teams got one strong one in during OT.
