Well, Russia is out given current events. Them and the four selected are the only countries with 35+ players in the NHL. Assuming this will be NHL-only teams they probably wanted to avoid another Team NA and Team Europe situation from the last go around.

Also interesting is that Switzerland is actually the sixth most represented country in the NHL. Though the way Slovakia is building that probably won’t last too much longer.

My understanding is that all they get is a weekly stipend for incidentals & leisure expenses; not really a wage or salary. They live with billet families who handle room, board, and act as a sort of legal guardian for those who are still minors.

The sticking point that I could see is that there are a handful of CHL players who are signed to NHL deals. They aren't ready for the big show, but are required to play in CHL because they haven't turned 20 yet. It seems likely those players would continue to remain ineligible.

I think the universities it would stand to hurt the most are the Canadians ones with CIS programs.
Even without NIL, the cost of attendance stipend the NCAA allows now sounds like what you’re describing.

But with Swankler, isn’t that literally just a case of them checking the wrong box and then saying “oops! Well, we aren’t going to appeal our own work…”?

In other Hockey Canada news, anyone else following the drama with BCHL?

For those that haven’t, the BCHL withdrew from the CJHL and Hockey Canada and went independent, largely over restrictions on recruiting players outside of British Columbia and roster limits on import players. The BCHL announced five Alberta based teams (Blackfald, Brooks, Okotoks, Sherwood Park and Spruce Grove) would join next season and all heck broke loose.

Now it seems those teams will join immediately.

The BCHL seems to be trying to build a Tier II, NCAA eligible version of the WHL.

Although things are getting better with people being able to openly discuss sex in an open and safe manner, there is still a significant portion of the population that thinks what they see in porn is what sex actually should be like. This causes a ton of problems (well beyond the situation at hand here).

Sounds like McLeod may be player #1, which is the guy who invited the others to join in

Specifically, it sounds like Forsyth County is on the verge of giving the go-ahead on a new, NHL capacity arena. This would be located in the NE Atlanta suburbs, which is probably smart if they're seriously going to give it a third try. Most of the money in Atlanta is in the northern 'burbs.

I saw the stuff on Atlanta and thought it was a joke. Quite literally. I had no idea it was semi-serious.

“Just one more franchise, man. C’mon man, just one more, I promise. I just need one more hockey team.”

Someone on Reddit said to add Atlanta, Houston, Salt Lake and Quebec. Two in the east, two in the west, and even divisions.
