I wouldn't say it's chronic there vs. anywhere else.
A significant percentage of parents are entitled f-cktards. My daughter is moving from JHS to HS teacher to try to get away from them. Reflecting from the Comments on that story, it is typically the rich ones who are the worst.

Non-rich parents usually don't have the time or money to be entitled dick-sneezes about children's sports.
"I went over the facts in my head, and admired how much uglier the situation had just become. Over the years I've learned that ignorance is more than just bliss. It's freaking orgasmic ecstasy".- Harry Dresden, Blood Rites

Most hockey parents are affluent because of the cost - at least in MN where community hockey is the model. Obviously that's not 100% universal, but when our kids were first starting to play we were very middle class and I did a lot of volunteer work to help cover the fees. It's not unheard of for it to cost $7,500 per kid for traveling hockey and it's not until high school where that drops to only a few hundred $.

I'm surprised to know that's true up there in the tundra. I knew it was true in the warmer states, where if you don't have skate time (usually at 2 a.m.) in a rink you're not on ice. For example, in VA you aren't getting good in hockey unless mommy and daddy are loaded.
But I had assumed you folks just needed to lace 'em up and there was pond hockey at most 1000 meters from every person in MN.

There's plenty of outdoor rinks, but traveling hockey isn't played outdoors.
For non-locals: Lemaire called Parrish out for not playing enough defense, and local radio and eventually social media had a field day with it when Mark started being a guest/hosting shows.

The first two or three years after Mark Parrish retired from the NHL, he went back to SCSU to finish his degree. Because of that, he did the color analyst role for the team’s tv broadcasts. He was great, and more impressively, hilariously honest while on air. He wasn’t mean, but he had a great way of delivering his commentary.

"One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its Black Gates are guarded by more than just Orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep, and the Great Eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust, the very air you breathe is a poisonous fume." Boromir
"Good news! We have a delivery." Professor Farnsworth

I've also enjoyed him when he's done games for the HS tournament. I wish the Gophers would have more of Casey Hankinson and less of Ben Clymer.
