    • Nice effort by the Wild last night. I see they've learned so much over the years from their first round exits. Taking games off is always a good idea come playoff time.

Fleury didn’t play well but he got no support either. Merril over gogo is puzzling.

Dallas was gonna come out rocking, and we were missing our top two centers - so I guess if MAF was gonna get a start, might as well have been last night. I’m glad they didn’t take him out- putting Gus bus in to get shelled was not a good idea in relief.

Hockey player tough. Morgan Barron didn’t even miss much of the series opener, getting cut by Vegas goalie Laurent Brossoit’s skate blade during a first-period scramble in front of the net. After going to the locker room, Barron returned a period later with more than 75 stitches and a full cage.

          • It’s not toughness, it’s a combination of a stupid, dangerous culture and a work environment with absurd expectations.

The same culture that praised Rich Peverley for dying and wanting to be put back on the ice?

                • 98% of "toughness" has always been just toxic stupidity. I love hockey but hockey players are f-cking idiots.

The same culture that tells players to just keep popping pain pills so they can play.

                    • There's a lot of youth hockey leagues up here and I believe that's where the 'get tough or go play soccer' mentality starts. There's different age divisions(Mini-mite starts 5-6)and as you get older you start playing and practicing more then you go home and watch the Bruins and want to emulate your fave player.
When I was in high school there was checking but it was only in the defensive zone. A guy I work with his son just started bantam hockey and that's when checking first starts. Anywhere on the ice. He said there's more that a few kids that shy away from checking but he showed me a few vids from his son's game and he has no problem laying into someone, all legal. never had a penalty called for one of his checks.

                      • Checking in any zone was fully legal starting in peewee hockey in Minnesota (11/12y old?) when I played back in the late '90s. I was even complimented by Bryan 'Butsy' Erickson at one of his summer camps as being one of the best players at checking he'd ever seen (at that level, of course). Unfortunately, the same could not be said of my skating ability. Thus, I was out of hockey by the time bantams rolled around, lol.

                        • Yeah it was def peewee here in Minnesota

was just up at Braemar arena in Edina, which I’d venture is one of the top development programs in the US. Was blown away at the amount of female players under 10 that were buzzing around tonight, just so many youth players here

                          • You guys are making me feel old. We were allowed to check as mites. And they taught us both to hit and take a hit. It was also an era where keeping your head up was a requirement, as if you got knocked out, it was your fault. Rarely ever happened, even with the talk because players kept their heads up.

So I saw that Dumba hit as totally legal, and even necessary.
