        • Reason #279 to expand the Court. If the Nazis hang on there that alone is sufficient to destroy democracy.

Restore the Court. Kill the Nazis.

Interesting and sad that the Republicans found an African American Man and a Woman to do their bidding for them.

Both programmed by religion, too. Thomas was a broken Gullah boy made over by conservative Catholics with White Savior complexes. ACB was an imprisoned Stepford child literally born into a conservative "Catholic" cult (they don't deserve the name Catholic, really, they're just authoritarian).

You have to be seriously f-cked in the head to be a non-white male and join Gilead.

Yeah ACB will be another McRapey...never thinking for herself (with an empty notebook to prove it!) and being highly predictable.

I dont think Roberts or Gorsuch will ever be as such which is why both sides find ways to call them corrupt and incompetent all the time.

Honest question for unofan and anyone else well versed in what is pending...are there any cases that in say, the next few weeks could make it all the way to the top and cause issues? It seems that the Left thinks the day after she is confirmed they will gut the world and the Right seems to think the day after she is confirmed she will make sure only the purist of votes will count. Is there reason for concern in the near term?

                  • Long term, whatever she and her Ape Court does can be undone.

Short term, I expect we will be treated to one term of 6-3 Dred Scotts, Korematsus, and Lochners. And then years of 9-6 complete repudiation not only of those but also of Citizens United, McCutcheon, and the rest of the shameful Rehnquist-Roberts legacy.

                        • That 9-6 Democratic Court will be a 12-9 GOP one by decade’s end. Then what? Looks like American voters are currently sick and tired of nakedly partisan power grabs, which is why 2018 was a blue wave and 2020 may be as well. I’m guessing most of the centrists and/or independent voters voting D this election and in 2018 aren’t voting D to allow us to expand the Supreme Court. Scooby’s media would have the headlines written for them. Since a lot of posters on here value intelligence, or at least educated people, why don’t we persuade those new D voters, the educated, middle class people from the suburbs, to keep voting D? Don’t we want them in our party? I feel like there are a few independent and/or centrist voters on this board who could be persuaded to vote for court reforms, like diminishing the power of the Supreme Court for both parties, but could not be persuaded to expand the court with 6 more Democrats. These are smart enough, educated enough people who seem to be the new “swing” voters at the moment. Supreme Court reform needs to happen, but expanding the court is just one option- and it’s a blatantly partisan one. Lots of important voters don’t seem to want that, based on their votes in 2018 and 2020.

                            • Other than term limits, what do you suggest then?

it’s not ok for many of us to just let them steal the seats, let them ruin lives with decisions and then say well, it’s wrong for us to change the rules, we just live with them breaking them.

                                https://www.abajournal.com/news/arti...e-alternatives

I won’t speak to the viability of these options, because I’m not a court expert. But, they at least don’t appear to be blatant power grabs. I’m not sure I like the 5-5-5 idea as much (didn’t Buttigieg advocate for this?), but again, it seems better to me than our current situation, and better than strictly partisan court packing that Kepler and others on here are convinced is the only option.
The GOP doesn’t play on our level. They’re underhanded and ruthless. They cheat, they steal. Beat them at their own game without even playing it. I think American voters, especially the current “swing” voter being educated suburban white women AND men, would be more likely to not actively oppose one of those reform ideas. And, they may still allow Democrats to keep most of their policies in place that they hopefully have an opportunity to pass in their trifecta come 2021.
