Jeez, Michael Steele. He knows and he won't disavow them. It is obvious when he speaks on the subject he understands the American conservative movement is, root and branch, white supremacist, and yet he will still not cut the cord.

Behold the power of ideology. At least Clarence Thomas has the excuse of craven mendacity. But Steele is a principled man. His tragedy is on par with Colin Powell.

They've just been flat-out bribed. It is obvious. They are getting money from the GOP or Putin or both.

Bribery or not, it's really about money. That's literally all Manchin and Sinema care about. Manchin is a coal baron with lots of coal baron buddies and he wants to keep lining his pockets with their donations.

              • Apparently Manchin walked it back saying he meant presidential election and not midterm. Still stupid thing to say.

I assumed it was the Presidential election and he can DIAF. The point is he saw what Mitch did with the Dingbat and this is still his position.

It doesn't matter. Given his state and politics the Supreme Court being 9 Clarence Thomas's would be fine with him. I'm not exactly sure what is Democrat about him. He does seem to vote with the Democrats a lot but everything he's voting on used to be supported by 40-50% of the Republicans. The Overton Window has moved so far right in this country we've lost all perspective on anything.

                        • With only a few days left in February, court watchers are trying to read tea leaves as to the identity of President Joe Biden's pick for the Supreme Court before his end-of-the-month deadline -- and a federal court on Thursday increased the buzz around DC Circuit Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.

The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit deviated from its typical procedure by issuing an opinion on a Thursday -- breaking with its usual schedule of Tuesday and Friday release days. Notably, Jackson -- who has interviewed with Biden for the Supreme Court nomination -- was in the majority in the 2-1 ruling case.

Some legal experts took the release as a sign that Jackson could be the nominee and that the announcement could come as soon as Friday, especially because a similar scenario played out with now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

"Part of why this sets off alarm bells is because we saw a similar scene play out in July 2018 with then-D.C. Circuit Judge Brett Kavanaugh," said Steve Vladeck, CNN Supreme Court analyst and professor at the University of Texas School of Law. "The D.C. Circuit handed down a 2-1 ruling on Monday -- a day on which it does not usually hand down decisions -- in a case in which Kavanaugh was in the majority. Had the case come down after his nomination was announced a few hours later, he presumably would have recused, and the panel would have divided 1-1."
A bad cause requires many words.

                              nm, it's everywhere now.

She's 51. I'm fine with it. Live to 100 and bury the 6 Suckers.

Jackson spent a significant part of her career representing indigent clients in the federal courts, and was credited with reducing the sentences of many of her clients. That experience gives Ms. Jackson a unique perspective on the struggles of poor people in a legal system that is often tilted towards the wealthy, at a time when issues of fairness in sentencing and the equal treatment under the law are increasingly before the high court.
