Also, regardless of your feelings on monarchies, she reigned for 70 years through a world war and god only knows what else, and by all accounts did so with dignity and poise. She outlasted 15 PMs and 1/3rd of American history.

So for the next week, don't be that guy. Just sit this one out.
Technically, I think her father reigned through WWII.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

So, based on my reading, those rules get bent and even broken all the time. The succession line itself runs like a Swiss watch but the actual house membership and naming gets fussed about and twisted like a Ferrari pit stop. Setting aside that "Windsor" itself is the heraldic equivalent of Freedom Fries, that whole Teutonic nettle is a hot, homely mess.

The Windor name deal is one of my GFs favorite facts. She loves studying European Monarchies (and even the old Russian Ones) so she talks about stuff like that a lot. I try and listen but I never got into the monarchies (I prefer ancient history) so I tend to zone out fast. The Windsor fact stuck though and was quite interesting.

Not really, it’s part of the reason why Phillip had to renounce all his royal titles before marrying Elizabeth (he was Prince Phillip of Denmark and Greece) and caused a rift in his family even before the war.

Apparently having the same rule for 70 years seems to engrain the branding on people. Because of Elizabeth's run, it may stay Windsor forever.
