I'm not of the "**** around and find out" mentality on this one. At least on the PR front, which is where the battle currently is.
On the military side, I'm almost certain that we have much, MUCH deeper intelligence as to the current, realistic capability of Russia (and every other nuclear power). As much as the Cold War was all showmanship on this front, the military absolutely knew and took that info to heart.
If it was a blatant front from the beginning, NATO would have moved in right away to aid Ukraine. Given how everyone danced around regarding direct involvement, at minimum, Russia has the capability to Macgyver something together that would equal something the size of the OG nukes dropped in 1945. At least that's what I feel the floor is. Despite their shortcomings, Russia very easily could be much stronger than that.It's never too early to start the Pre-game festivities
