  • After the shooting in Vegas, I came out for raising the age of gun purchase, banning high capacity mags and bump stocks, universal background checks, and red flag laws. As a result the NRA turned on me. Best decision I made. They don’t want sanity, they want to raise $$

The dead will never be compensated and the gun fellators will still have their guns somehow.

I mean come on there are plenty of uninsured drivers on the road...and you can't buy a car without insurance.

The only way is to tax it out of existence. It is right there in the wording "Well Regulated" well regulate it to death. Stop the BS. No more half measures. Start passing laws to regulate it and then make it so expensive that breaking the rules would require you to go into hock. Stop ***** footing around and wake the **** up.

And stop worrying that the GOP will accuse us of taking their guns...they will do that no matter what. Its time to sack up and fix the problem instead of just giving loud speeches.

Honestly, the Dems should run on dead students and Abortion. When the GOP bleats on about CRT show pictures of all the kids killed because of guns. No more wonky tax policy and "Trump is a bad man" Dems need to start speaking the truth and the truth is Voting GOP is Voting For Dead Babies and Subjugated Mothers.
I'm taking their guns. I'm also putting 13 on the Court and I am "reinterpreting" the 2nd Amendment. It's time.

      • I posted long ago that the only real solution is to basically ban private ownership of guns. If people want to try that, I won't stand in their way, even though I own some guns I've used for hunting. Short of that you cannot eliminate these events.

I think taxing ammunition is a good idea, akin to taxation on cigarettes. However, people still smoke, so if someone really wants to buy ammo to shoot up a school or business, they'll find the money. Taxing guns is ok too, but won't have the same effect as taxation on ammo. There are already 400 million guns in private hands.

Probably the best solution available to the government is to privatize the ammunition industry. You could plausibly argue that its a national security issue to have ammunition in the control of the government. Will cost some dough. Also won't have to go through the whole 2nd Amendment issue associated with a ban on guns. People will still find a way to try to make their own ammo, but there can be roadblocks put up to that as well.

All of the pseudo solutions like raising the age of buyers, limiting the size of magazines in weapons, etc..., are political solutions, letting politicians pat themselves on the back without really addressing the problem.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

But you support politicians who block even minor actions to slow gun access. It's not a matter of what YOU think, it matters how you vote.

This is a political issue, whether you like it or not. Remember that one side constantly sides with the gun industry to keep things open and easy to sell, to the point that they block every step to make shootings a little more difficult.

Every solution you suggest is a political matter.

              • Huh. Guns are banned at the upcoming NRA convention in Texas.

How are they ever gonna feel safe there?
What kind of cheese are you planning to put on top?

What I meant by political solution (and as I wrote in my post) is that it's a worthless, toothless solution that politicians come up with so they can say "we did something" in response to everyone demanding "do something," even though the solution won't address the problem.

Case in point, I think NY had previously adopted laws pertaining to limiting the size of magazines or clips for guns, as well as "red flag" laws. I believe both have been advocated by posters on this Board as possible solutions. How'd they work out in Buffalo?

There should be. But there isn't enough Mental Health Professionals available for the PTSD in this country never the less helping bullies get over themselves. I was mercilessly bullied too. All through my schoolage years. I didn't buy an AR-15 and shoot people with it.

If the rates were high enough (hint hint) coverage would be available (hint hint).
