Officially. But it is simple to get around filibuster rules, and the majority can change the rules at any time. Odds are if the Democrats ever get a majority in the Senate again the filibuster will be dead once and for all.

No, if that happens Republican Members will just try to make Islam illegal.

I wouldn't assume that with the current leadership.

It's already a campaign issue. I would hope if the senate flips we'd get new leadership anyway. I'm not excited about a prospective Majority Leader Schumer.

We can hope all we want but leadership follows from the power structure within the chamber. I don't see any significant changes among the Dems. We saw in the House what happens when people try to realign leadership because of ideology instead of naked power. That's a short walk off an even shorter pier.

                  Huh...

NEARLY ALL OF MEXICO'S GUN VIOLENCE IS COMMITTED WITH ILLEGAL FIREARMS COMING FROM U.S.
While the right to bear arms is protected by the Mexican constitution, as it is in the U.S., there are much stricter regulations on the sale of firearms: For the most part, assault weapons are banned, as is anything more powerful than a .38 caliber gun. Guns can only be sold legally by the military—in the entire country, there is only one legal gun store, located in Mexico City.

Customers must undergo months of background checks to enter the Directorate of Arms and Munitions Sales on the outskirts of town. The government authorizes the sale and registration of only one handgun per owner for the purposes of "human defense."
But a February 2018 report from the Center for American Progress found that the problem of U.S. firearms goes beyond Mexico: between 2014 and 2016, more than 50,000 guns originating in the United States were recovered during criminal investigations in 15 countries in North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

"Put another way," the report added, "during this span, U.S.-sourced guns were used to commit crimes in nearby countries approximately once every 31 minutes."

No. I don't believe that. The Democrats care about government too much. It's a conscious effort by Republicans to use the minority rules of government, and majority rules when they have it to keep these issues alive. The rich want it that way cause as long as the weak, poor, and stupid are fighting over things like that they can't see the 23 trillion dollars that was stolen from them.

This is no surprise. Handguns get illegally made overseas, smuggled into Canada and the US to commit crimes, then once they become traceable and risky to use in crimes here, they get smuggled again and sold south of the border.

It's not a surprise that it was two conservatives agreeing.

They tell themselves that it's both sides. It's how they sleep at night.

I simply am agreeing that abortion is an issue that keeps getting brought up so the parties can argue over it, and get votes. Simple as that.

You were saying that the parties are in cahoots. This is not a fact. The GOP is trying to legislate Christian fundamentalist idiocy and the Democrats are trying to protect a fundamental civil liberty of women.
