I expect most states’ GOP legislators will do the same.

I was thinking, while I don't have numbers in front of me, I'm willing to bet the numbers on children being abused and trafficked are higher in the foster/social systems versus if they are adopted by parents, regardless of the gender distribution of said parents. For that matter, I'm willing to bet the same thing for those children who would be born to parents who might have aborted them but were prevented from doing so.

And yet the other side believes that children being abused and trafficked only apparently happens in some crazy blood-drinking under-a-pizza-shop cabal filled with every celebrity whoever disagreed with them. When in actuality, it happens in the banal of situations. And most of those situations could be easily remedied by smart governmental and social services that those on the other side are repeatedly opposing and trying to stop.

Can I get life insurance for the fetus? No? Social Security card? Not until it's born? You mean it isn't recognized by the US until it's out?

Speaking of heartbeats.... grandma's got a heatbeat yet is on a ventilator and very little brain activity. Why can I pull the plug on her but not little Tommy Zygote?

When a reporter confronted Texas Gov. Greg Abbott with a tough question about how the state’s new law banning abortions after six weeks of pregnancy will affect victims of rape and incest, the Republican swiftly vowed to eradicate sexual assault in the Lone Star State.
                    https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...n-ban-rapists/

Some local governments have also pushed back against the Texas law, including Portland, Ore., which announced a plan to sever contracts worth up to $7 million per year with Texas-based businesses, the Oregonian reported.

Fletcher said she would support efforts to prioritize victims of sexual assault in Texas, which reported more rapes than the national average in 2019, by putting resources toward rape kit backlogs and other measures to combat violence. But the congresswoman said she questioned the sincerity behind Abbott’s Tuesday comments about rapists.

“We know that Texas, unfortunately, has not been making this its top priority,” she added. “It has instead made its top priority banning abortion.”

Texas state Rep. Gene Wu (D), who represents a district near Houston, also expressed doubt about Abbott’s plan to stop rapes in Texas.

“Wait,” Wu said in a tweet mocking Abbott’s answer, “Governor Abbott had a solution to end all RAPE and he sat on it until now?”
                    Texas is an absolute ****hole.

: "What kind of answer is that to give a victim of rape or incest? 'Oh don't worry dear, you've got 6 weeks, or it really may be 2, to try to mitigate the crushing, psychic damage that's been done to you.' What kind of monsters are these people?"

                          • Her ridiculous rule is apparently similar to one in Ohio that was recently overturned.

Also, it requires that these medications be prescribed "only after an in-person examination". Well, How soon after? If it's the patient's OB/GYN and they saw them within the year timeframe for normally allowed prescribing, does that count?

Either way, it's an obvious defacto ban on these as most doctor visits shifted to telemedicine for several months last year (and for most of us who have brains, continues now).
I gotta little bit of smoke and a whole lotta wine...

                              • I assume this one is making the rounds, but saw a snippet that made a lot of sense to me. Paraphrasing: if you can force a woman to use her body to save the life of a fetus, then why isn't organ donation mandatory?
If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?
