    This.

We have entered the world where the bullies and the fascists have coercive power and OF COURSE they will use it to belittle, badger, and brutalize the rest of us. That's what they do, it's who they are. The Right is a mental disorder born of the inability to adjust to post-animal civilization, and these creeps will harass and harm innocent people until we remove them from power, permanently.

These are the "hate-pinched faces of mean, bitter church-going women." They are the failures who will punish everyone around them to escape responsibility until we neutralize them as a political influence.

      This.

”Of COURSE, you may perform an abortion to save a woman’s life! Just come down to the courthouse on the third Thursday of a month that includes a blue moon between 1 and 1:07 pm to fill out the 50-page form in triplicate to document your status as a practicing medical professional and to document your personal assets in the event that any private citizen decides to sue you. You’ll find the forms in the basement (without stairs) behind the door marked ‘Beware of the Leopard.’ We’ll then put your forms in front of a judge, nominated by a pro-life governor and approved by the blood-red legislature, who will decide whether your career is over.

But please, save that woman’s life - it’s totally legal!

Do you feel lucky, punk? Well, do you?”
If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?

If the doctor chooses to not save the mother, it's Greg Abbott's fault? Dan Patrick's? Ken Paxson? I'd have thought it'd be malpractice by the doctor because Texas law makes that very exception.

          • And do they define "substantial" anywhere? (No, they do not.) You are forcing physicians to wait to get as close as they can to the point of no return before they are allowed to do what they would normally have felt was medically necessary much earlier in the process. And if they choose to jump the gun, for lack of a better term, the penalty isn't a writeup or a slap on the wrist, but very significant criminal or financial consequences, all based on the eventual subjective review of a number of persons outside of the actual decision making process. It is purposefully meant to have a chilling effect while pretending it does not have a chilling effect.

No where in Texas law defines "substantial". That'd be surprising. Don't they use Black's or some other standard law dictionary?

Sounds like that particular doctor would have been baited into saving that woman’s life, knowing s/he would get sued for performing such an act, what with this Supreme Court and all.

                  • These laws are written purposefully vague with the goal of discouraging the treatment. Hospital compliance officers are always extremely defensive and MDs tend to value their licensure. So if Texas (or any other christofascist state with a cute carveout) says "oh surrrrre you can do that"... the message is sent.

                    • Doctors could end this in a second by simply ignoring it as a group. You really going to imprison every doctor in a slave state? Yeah, I don't think so.

The morons have forgotten something: they're morons. We do everything of consequence. If conservatives (the few of them who have jobs) strike, we ship in Mexicans who can do their jobs more adroitly and more cheaply. If liberals strike, their world ends. No more welfare checky. No more dick pills.

And lost in all this legal crap is the woman’s choice. If she wants to birth a baby missing half its brain and let it suffer for the minutes it will be alive, she should be able to make that choice. Which i believe is what doctors want too. Many women will choose to terminate to spare the suffering, some may not, but to be forced to give birth is inhumane.

but I guess conservative men should be allowed to tell her what to do

The Texas law allows abortion if "the fetus has a severe and irreversible abnormality, identified by reliable diagnostic procedures."

This law is just taunting doctors - absolutely DARING them to gamble with their careers in the courts over their lawyers' ability to argue semantics and medical vs. legal definitions.

Like I said, let's see what happens when 75 thousand doctors get hauled up before the Gilead star chamber.
