What I have been posting all along. And they wonder why the medical profession is leaving in droves. People are stupid.

Weighing in on the woman who didn't think about abortion until she needed one- It is entirely possible that she truly didn't think about the abortion issue and could be ignorant about all the possible problems these laws could create. Not because she is willfully ignorant but because she has little if any exposure to media that would cover it or to people who have had issues.

When I was first in Practice what was revealed about pregnancy was minimal. Women didn't tell they were pregnant until past 12 weeks, if there was a problem with the pregnancy or a miscarriage women did not share this outside immediate family (sometimes only the husband knew). There were a lot of things that were NEVER discussed outside of my exam room. No one talked about this stuff on TV. There was no social media, sharing of sad or scary stories. This was the norm. Over the time I practiced this gradually changed in the area I lived. The culture is now incredibly open- people talk about EVERYTHING in minute detail. Not everywhere is like this- there are some places where this stuff is still not discussed. Not because they are oppressed but because this is considered private and not something people talk about. For those who live in more open cultures it is inconceivable that women wouldn't talk about it and everyone must be exposed to all sorts of info.

I know I have talked to people who have minimal media available to them and what is presented certainly does not encourage thought about implications. If you don't have enough info then you may not know to have questions.

Have had more than a few exchanges with people who have made comments that show they are completely unaware. When I point out things- like remaining pregnant could put a woman at physical risk medically, at risk from partner violence, at financial risk if they have pregnancy complications that preclude working, they are stunned- they never entertained theses things. It may not change their minds but they are usually shocked. No one has ever talked about the consequences of continuing pregnancy. In the echo chamber they only get as far as the moral outrage of killing the baby.

She didn’t give her political affiliation, but I believe at the end of the story she described herself as “pro-life.”

Sure. There’s a difference between saying someone is a monster and not having sympathy.

im just out of sympathy because this doesn’t need to be happening.

I just don’t feel anything for them anymore after the cruelty inflicted on half the population.

DGF you know I'm 100% on board with you on the issue at large here. I'm just not comfortable immediately condemning this woman as of the moment. If anything this will turn her into an advocate similar to the woman that recently spoke before Congress on the horrors of these abhorrent and inhumane laws putting the lives of women at severe risk. I'd rather hope for a "better and more informed" human than for them to suffer immeasurably and have to forever feel shame.

Being ignorant = a monster that had it coming.

    Moving along.

“We’ll that’s not going to ever affect me, I’ll never need one.”

again, have some goddamn empathy. Jesus. She only cares because it now affects her.

there’s also ignorance here- like when a certain poster said something about how so few women actually get abortions blah blah blah…completely ignorant of all the involuntary ones!

and doctors and dems warned people before these laws were passed. They just wouldn’t listen.

so maybe women like this need to learn some ****ing compassion for things that may not ever happen to them

They no longer get the benefits of my sympathy. They are anathema. Good day, sir!

It is exactly analogous to the COVID victims. These are monsters; the fewer of them, and the less happy those who remain, the better. It will be a better world when they are gone, and if they go alone, suffering, in pain, then boo hoo, it is only what they deserve.

You know the woman in this story was hell bent on making other women miserable? You're able to discern enough from this story she's monster just because she "wasn't focused" on abortion laws in her state? You're 100% comfortable making that determination?

I hate MAGAs as much as the next guy but ffs I'm a husband and a father, and I wouldn't wish this upon anyone unless I could be 100% sure their offspring are the likely to be evil spawn.

But perhaps these people need to stop and think about anyone other than themselves. For once.

taking away half the populations rights then crying about it…could have been avoided

I know, and I don't like taking part in pile ons. This is just so... predictable. Like with Covid. "You know that thing we said that would happen, which you mocked us and assured us it wouldn't happen, but then it did happen literally exactly like we said it would? Yeah..."

edit to add: I hope this woman is ok and learns something from this experience.
