  • Cori Bush is why the Eviction Moratorium just happened. She slept on steps of Congress for like 5 days to push the issue. That is how you get things done the right way. (she shouldnt have had to do it that way)

    • What made Democrats point at each other and blame themselves for the eviction moratorium in the first place? Seems a little senseless. Could Biden and his administration have pushed the issue sooner? Absolutely. Should they have gotten money out to landlords, etc. faster? I’m not sure. I’d like to think so. Could Congress have done anything about it? The House could maybe have started sooner and passed something, but Pelosi said she didn’t have the votes, and I believe her. And, even if she did, the bill would have died in the Senate, but not because of Democrats.
The Supreme Court has its fingerprints all over this, and they may still strike down this newly extended moratorium. Biden said as much, but said by the time they might overturn it, more money will be disbursed to landlords, etc. Point the finger at Kavanaugh, Thomas, ACB, Alito, and Gorsuch. They’re the ones who said the CDC has overstepped its bounds on the moratorium issue, which, far as I can tell, prior to that ruling, precedent showed they hadn’t.
Either way, great job Cory Bush and others. I hope this isn’t forgotten about within two news cycles, but the message and framing for Democrats has to switch back to rightfully blaming Republicans and the SC, not each other.

The relaxation of one does not preclude the relaxation of the other. It is not zero sum.

The point is many Leftists such as myself have been tripping all over ourselves giving unqualified support to the party and Centrist Dems, but I'm not seeing much of that from the Center back to us.

It as if the Centrists feel entitled to the Left's votes (because we can't go anywhere else) but they have the privilege of only listening to us when they want.

        That isn't really a coalition. It's a hostage situation.

        • Centrists are annoying and slow...but you don't burn them just to prove a point. Maybe if the consequences are minimal but not when, of late, it literally puts everything on the line.

Nina Turner will be Sinema only way more annoying. She doesn't have the savvy or the brain of AOC so she will do way more harm than good. She believes in letting the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Put it this way right now AOC is threatening to blow up the bipartisan deal if Reconciliation doesn't happen. In the end she won't do it but she will keep the fight going until she has no other cards to play. Then she will suck it up and vote while still fighting for more and gaining people to support her view. Turner would 100% vote against the bipartisan deal and anything Biden puts forth that isn't 100% in line with her. She will burn Infrastructure to the ground, kill the Dem Majority and actively hope Biden loses in the name of "fixing the system" then wonder why the country goes to hell. She is every sophomore taking PoliSci who thinks because they support a third party they are righteous and they don't care about the fallout cause they don't think ahead.

We can't afford that...if that means accepting more Bidens for now so be it. It isn't ideal but it is better than the alternative.

          • Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Pa.) has launched a bid for Senate in Pennsylvania. Looks like it's going to be a great race between him, Lt. Gov John Fetterman, and Pa. State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta.

According to the Intercept, Nancy Pelosi switched her position on student loan cancellation after meeting with a couple billionaire Democratic megadonors with deep ties to her.

And, last but not least, the data used for redistricting will be released by the Census Bureau on August 12th. From an article I read, Republicans could draw/redraw a minimum of six seats in their favor in TX, NC, FL, and GA alone.

This is good news. Lamb is PA political royalty so he comes ready-made with a machine. Maybe the DNC is finally starting to learn how the game is played.

I don't even give a sh-t if he's just a brainless back bencher. We need that seat.

Nancy bending over to rich people. Shocking. The problem with her position is no one ever seems to care about giving away money to rich people. We do it every single day. The richer you are the more free **** you get. It's BS.

                    Nobody is doing this.

The Center will always believe it has a god-given right to represent us. It has no more right than the Left. They ought to be equal partners in the coalition. The Left might as well say it's our party and the Centrists can join us if they pass our litmus test. When either side does this it is dealing in bad faith and the Center does it ALL THE TIME.

In practice, it's compromise, and the Left always compromises the most, but we have to. If the Dems splinter and the Right wins, the Centrists aren't the ones who are going to be hurt the most, and they know this so they use it as a leverage. We're a hostage. But even the Center can sometimes go too far.

Meanwhile, the Self-Proclaimed Adults In The Room will spread the derp that we "can't" nominate a Lefty because they "can't" win, even though we're the only ones who ever bring any energy or new members to the party. We put up with it, but it doesn't make it any less galling.

And the Plutes use this natural friction to prevent any real systemic change from ever occurring, so even when Centrists win half the time they wind up as the Right's useful idiots.

                    It is a problem.

It sucks but right now we have no choice. I mean, we have a choice -- we could simply refuse to participate in electoral politics and allow the system to fail and then take our chances with revolution. Kropotkin and Bakunin suggested this and they were certainly more sophisticated political thinkers than Madison and Hamilton, but they'll forgive me if I'm not impressed by the historical track record of this strategy: Bolsheviks betray the February Revolution and convert a fledgling socialist democracy to a 70-year terrorist dictatorship; German Communists flounce from the Reichstag giving Hitler the supermajority needed to pass the Enabling Acts and revoke the German Constitution and establish a single party fascist totalitarian state -- yeah, I get the idea, but no thanks.

Fine, "nobody" is always a false argument because there is always somebody.

But Centrists who burn Lefties for easy Likes outnumber the converse 100:1.

As for a what a "Hard" Lefty is, it's basically a 1957 Republican at this point.

The problem with revolutionaries (usually) is they don't think 5 steps ahead because it is a struggle of good vs. evil. It is always about the here and now you never worry about the aftermath except in the abstract. History is riddled with them. (your examples being some of the best) I mean it took less than a decade for Napolean to seize power post French Revolution...

That is why when you are in college it seems like an awesome idea to screw the system! You are young, dumb and full of *** and your mind is being exposed to wonderful ideals and thought and you just want to fix all the issues that exist. The consequences are, ironically, inconsequential. If something breaks we can easily fix it later. Most of the time you don't have the experience to know that nothing is as black and white as it seems when you feel you are fighting on the side of the angels.
