Tying PR to DC will just **** PR over. That guarantees PR won't get statehood right now.

DC is more complicated than PR since carving off the city proper from the federal district means the federal district still gets 3 electoral votes. That's okay with me right now because that means Joe and Jill Biden get three electoral votes, since they'd be the only remaining residents of the district, but I suspect this is something we'd want to address...

    • I never said tie them together.

Obvs we'll never get DC as long as the GOP can stop it.

I've heard some of the sponsors of a DC statehood bill want to tie them together, which is a huge mistake.

I can see why DC would want to do it. But it does not make sense overall.

Every measure to right the wrongs of the EC should be enacted as soon as it becomes politically possible, and in the manner they are most simple to do. The longer we have government by dirt and shrubs rather than people the longer we will live with the looming threat of a Nazi takeover.

          • Only in America does Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley get to question Wray instead of the other way around. Only in America does Republicans get to run around committing crimes with no repercussions while Neera Tanden gets left on the side of the road, especially after all the nutjobs Trump had in his administration.

                  • It sounds like they’re keeping the full stimulus check cap as it was for the previous two (75k single and 150k couple), but the phase out cap will be lowered to 80k and 160k. Originally it was 100k and 200k.

This is going to be painful for D’s in 2022. Unbelievably stupid blunder. The thing that gets me even more is there is tons of relief for rich people and you’re not going to throw a bone to people who are middle class to upper middle class depending on where you live?

If those were the brackets they used in prior rounds it would make sense but count on that being something republicans make a big deal over and people eating it up.

I don’t think it’s a giant blunder, but it’s certainly one that could have been avoided. The single person making 90k probably isn’t going to miss a $200 check. Where it probably hurts is families and the child payments now phased out earlier, where that $200 check would also include a bonus per child. I’d be interested to see how much this saves, and why the moderate Dems are trying to penny pinch this portion of the bill.

At least it’s better than the prior rumors that 50k would be the full cap and 75k would be the phase out cap.

That’s exactly it. This isn’t going to move the needle very much as far as total cost. To be honest $200 for a family making $190k or whatever the formula is isn’t a ton of money, but I suspect people who don’t get anything who got money before will hold Dems responsible. And let’s not forget how close the margins have been in a lot of recent races. It makes absolutely no sense to me.
