Speaking of worthless the stuff being uncovered about Marjorie Qucumber Green is getting rather scary. She makes Crazy Eyes McGunfondler look normal. She posted stuff not that long ago that would make Coping Maga blush...
Manchin is still better than whatever Nazi West Virginia will eventually replace him with. He’ll vote to protect the ACA and he voted against the Trump tax cut. Hes on record saying he’s open to DC statehood. He voted against Amy Coney Barrett even though his state overwhelmingly wanted her confirmed. He’s the best we can get from WV, and his days are numbered — either from retirement or losing to a Trump party nut. And I’ll be sad to see him go.

the WV that voted for Bill Clinton doesn’t exist anymore.

      • In this case i disagree. A Dem who screws the agenda (which he is) is not better than a Republican. We need all 50. There is zero votes to spare. Screwing the nuking of the filibuster means that nothing gets passed.

The majority doesn't matter if you can't pass bills. He is helpful for judges but no legislation of value gets passed if the filibuster stays in place minus COVID if they do it through reconciliation.

On everything else I agree...but as long as he is a roadblock he is no better than the average Republican. Hell all he had to do was not say anything and the threat would be enough. He and Sinema (for now) basically handcuffed Schumer and Biden.

edit: if he changed his mind later even once I will take back everything. My problem is I doubt he does which is a huge problem.

And that's the Dems' fault for letting it go. Same thing has happened in Ohio.

Of 74 million at least 10% agree with that post, non-ironically.

What part "Nazis" do people not understand? This is the real thing, folks. Not a metaphor. These are the exact same people. 1920s Germany was not suddenly possessed by supernatural demons. Nazism is a sociological phenomenon that can be created wherever and whenever conditions are right.

It has happened here. We are right in the middle of it, right down to the Good German ostriches like Hovey.

This is not like that happening, it is it happening. This is not a dress rehearsal, it is the production run.

He doesn't think he can and keep his office.

I 100% agree with you he should say "screw it" and give his job for this -- the world lost tens of millions fighting the Nazis last time. The least somebody can do is risk a transition to a lucrative private sector gig to fight them.

If every Democrat did what was needed we would stand a great chance of eliminating the immediate threat of the Nazis retaking power nationally. That means we would unpack the Court, nuke them with a VRA that would make the 1964 version look like Rutherford B. Hays, and indict, convict, and imprison every rightwing domestic terrorist and every political and media figure who has aided and abetted them.

This is war by legal means and we cannot lose even once more or it's over.

Nuking the filibuster is the sine qua non of restoring democracy. The Republican party as it currently exists is fully and irredeemably Nazi because it's voters are. They are sociopaths because they are representative of their constituents.

                    • Sorry but I don't care what he thinks he can and cant do. He doesn't get the excuse of "well I have an election to win" when we believe the future of the country is on the line. We sit here and whine about the GOP is in lockstep and how the Dems are never that way...he is a symptom of that problem. The GOP makes the tough and unpopular decisions and dares the voters to vote them out. The Dems dip their toes in the water and if the temperature is not just right they back away like a frightened 3 year old before they learn to swim.

The thing is, Manchin doesn't think anything is on the line BUT his job. He has no real cares except being a Senator. If he honestly thought anything being done was important he would be standing up screaming about it. I mean he was there, in harms way during the attack and his colleagues in the GOP are doing their best to sweep it under the rug and blame everyone but those responsible so much so that they voted 45-5 to just not even have a trial. That should have him steaming to the point he would want to burn them to the ground with every piece of legislation they hate. Is he though? Nah. What does he care he is a Senator and as long as he does nothing and stays quiet he might get to keep his job. The Dems have plenty of that type of Senator...the quiet kid in the class who is just praying the teacher never calls on them because then they never have to have an opinion or be heard.

As you said in the other thread the people handed us the keys...the problem is our elected leaders are too afraid to step on the gas and go. They would rather let someone else drive so they can just chill in the passenger seat and not have to really worry about anything. They win and get bulldozed.

                      • You keep writing as if we disagree. We don't. But the bottom line is what to do about it. We can't change Manchin so we have to change his calculation and make it more uncomfortable for him to prevaricate and play to his derps. The guy who can do that is Schumer. We can't change Schumer so we have to change his calculation, and so on...

I mean not even. The flyovers just want us to pretend it's 1950 and everybody's still a straight white Christian with at most a high school education. The WV Hillbillies want us to pretend it's 1850 and we can still own black people.

                            • Manchin is better than any Republican, especially right now. He’s going to allow for bigger, better things than a 51R/49D Senate. We all wish our right flank was not as conservative as Manchin, but it is. I think most of us hoped for 52D/48R or when 53D/47R, so that publicly staunch defenders of the filibuster, like Manchin and Sinema, were relatively worthless, especially with moderate Senators like Tester saying he would consider ending the filibuster if conditions were right.
With “moderate” senators Collins and Romney rejecting the $1.9 trillion outright, the Covid relief bill will likely have to be wrapped into the reconciliation process as well. With Bernie as the Senate Budget Committee chairman, I’m sure he’ll come up with some good stuff for both reconciliation bills Democrats have use of this year. Definitely not ideal, but more power than we’ve had since 2009.
