Why you feel the need to compare to and then trash the USMNT in order to feel better about the USWNT is bizarre.
      ?

There is a pretty long history of jim being a huge optimist of the USMNT, even in situations where others wouldn’t, while being neutral/slightly pessimistic of the USWNT’s standing despite their continued winning (although that may end this tournament).

It’s like being really high on like Iowa football and then always saying this is the end of Alabama.

Because the USWNT and the USMNT play in two completely different worlds and are therefore graded on two completely different curves?

The expectations for the USWNT are so ridiculous that there was a NYT profile on USSF President Cindy Parlow Cone and one of the higher ranking people, the US Adult Soccer Association President, was saying Parlow Cone will have to resign if the USWNT doesn’t win (granted, the USASA President is sexist, pro/rel truther doosh).

April Heinrichs’ tenure is a really good example of this. She took over in 2000 after the USWNT won the Olympics in 96 and the World Cup in 99, the USWNT then lost the 2000 Olympics final in OT and lost in the semifinals of the 2003 World Cup to a golden generation Germany. Did anyone blame the players that were probably too entrenched and holding back talented younger players? Nope, it was all April’s fault.

Greg Ryan got similarly tossed out in 2007 after losing one game in his tenure. That one game was a World Cup semifinal to Brazil. Again, coaches fault, no one else (although that one is probably correct).

Sundhage left in 2012 after all the criticism of the loss in 2011.

Jill Ellis is still criticized despite winning twice!

I’ve said it before: Manager of the USWNT is the worst job in all of world soccer. You have to win, no exceptions. Anything less and it’ll be your fault.

Don’t worry about them, the FMF will recycle one of them in 2 years.

              • The most poignant example is the press reaction to Carli Lloyd’s criticism.

                link
These comments strike me as Lloyd being a bit too close to the team still. It sounds like a conversation the team would have in the locker room instead of the airwaves. It’d sound much better that way. Here, it just feels a bit off.
This is a good summary of the reactions of the USWNT Twitter stans:
Lloyd has been banging this drum since well before she retired, in what was, at best, an indirect way of highlighting her own commitment. There’s no question that Lloyd is a soccer legend in this country and the world, but she also never hesitated to make sure everyone knew just how much she was working, and more than her teammates if she could help it. Her running wind sprints after the US was knocked out of the Olympics by Canada in plain view of the media is the kind of performative, Jimmy Butler-esque horse**** that most should see through. It’s a way of shirking responsibility for what the team just did, by showing everyone that it couldn’t be your fault, look at how hard you’re training!
It is never the fault of the players, always the coach. If you dare criticize the players, you will be shunned.

(Which is at least something the USWNT and USMNT have in common right now)

                • In other news, New England Revolution Coach Bruce Arena has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into, uh, something.

The only clue being he may have said “something”.

                  • Jamaica pulls off the unthinkable and will go to the knockout round. A 0-0 against Brazil eliminates the Brazilians. They advance with 5 points, 1 goal for, and 0 goals against.
