I thought for all their midfield mediocrity Newcastle and Villa had managed to stay up year in and year out, never challenging but never in serious danger of relegation.

Edit: looks like Everton is even moreso. I had no idea West Ham was so such a perennial.

It's interesting looking at the original Premier League teams from 1992-93 and where they are today, 12 of them are in the PL and there's 6(?) still in the Championship, 2 are in League One while Wimbledon doesn't exist (they moved to Milton Keyes in 2004 and became a new club) and Oldham is in the fifth tier National League (the same league as Wrexham this season).

      • How long does the Wrexham BS last? Are they ceiling unlimited? And is this what happens, now -- rather than buying in the EPL these farts start buying lower division teams and pumping them so full of money they shoot up through the levels?

TBH, that actually sounds way more fun than the 15 years I've followed the English leagues.

Wrexham really isn’t anything new, most of the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth are full of clubs trying to the exact same thing (which is why most of the EFL clubs are teetering on the brink of bankruptcy), it’s just Wrexham are the only ones with a TV show.

I give Wrexham 3-4 years before the novelty wears off and the money starts to run out. They might get to League One but they don’t have the financial means to get to the Championship let alone the Premier League.

As long as outside investment is willing to throw money at it, they can get people on board to fund the championship and premier league. Obviously just those 2 alone won't have the cash. But they have the name power to get others.

Oh I don’t doubt they’ll get outside investment but at that point “the story” loses its meaning.

The big thing that’ll hold Wrexham back will be revenue sustainability. They can spend money all they want but if there isn’t enough coming in then the trouble starts. The fans love them now but what happens when they start charging Championship level ticket prices?

                • TIL in 2001 the Glazers were offered the Tampa Bay Mutiny by MLS for free.

The rumored expansion fee for the rumored San Diego expansion franchise? $500 million.

(Now I realize they would’ve had to invest money in the team but there’s no way it would’ve been more than $500 million)

I'd say the only upside is, there are no other north Wales teams really. So they can get a large fan base just from that. Obviously Liverpool is close by. But, that's not Wales.

I would think it's in your wheel-house. Subversive, sharp, yes sometimes cheap and crass, but overall very smartly done imho.

The pilot wasn't good but from what I have heard the show is fantastic, it's on my list for someday.

                            • MLS Player suspended indefinitely for possible involvement in match fixing scheme.

It doesn’t say it but it’s a Brazilian player for Colorado. The scheme seems to involve Brazilian players at different teams around the world as well (Juventus players are rumored to be involved as well). The gist of it is that players are intentionally getting yellow cards in games.
