It was either play Mexico or play Canada. Given recent form I'd say Mexico is the slightly better choice.

League A will now be 16 teams. The top four get byes to the quarterfinals of the knockout round while the remaining 12 will be split into two groups of six and play a swiss-style group play of four games.

League B is 16 teams put into groups of four and playing full round robin.

Despite the results of this Nations League not being decided yet, they're using the rankings from March to seed this, so it'll be Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, and Canada getting byes. It's also being used as qualifying for the 2024 Copa America, where quarterfinal winners qualify directly while quarterfinal losers then go into a two-game playoff to decide the final two spots. Interesting they're using Nations League as qualifying rather than Gold Cup.

I remember Qatar Airways was all over the CCL Final as a sponsor despite the fact that a) Qatar Airways doesn't fly to Mexico and b) I don't think had their Seattle service at that time.
