These are some pretty interesting stats. As of 2016:
85% of regulation/extra time penalties are successful
In a shootout, that drops to 76%
If you need to score to stay alive, it drops to 62%
If your PK will win the shootout, it’s 92%
The team that shoots first wins 60% of the time.

            https://blog.innerdrive.co.uk/sports...es?hs_amp=true
            Through four games:

            20/33 for 60.6%
            2/3 to stay alive
            2/3 for a walk-off
Team that shoots first has only won 25%

When you have a brewha-ha with multiple players, what does giving a double tweet every 5 seconds accomplish, especially if there is no cards or other discipline issued? I saw the AR’s come in to aid, which also seemed pretty rare.

It’s something that the American officiating training in me just can’t comprehend. It goes against everything I’ve been taught across multiple sports.
The double tweeting was dumb and sign that he had no control. ARs coming in to help is absolutely correct and taught, the fact that he had zero conversation with them is a sure sign of incompetence.

Soccer is the only sport where a third party will, completely uninvited, shout their opinion that the sport sucks. It’s never enough that they don’t like it, they have to announce it to the world.

                        • The KFTM shootout shenanigans is a prime example of why it pays to be proactive as a ref in preventing that s-.

Hand the players the ball yourself.

If the goalkeeper comes out, give him a stern “get on your line!”.

Any player stepping out and not taking a kick or celebrating gets a yellow.

**** that was frustrating match from a referee perspective.

Just the amount of dissent they take from players is obnoxious compared to what officials in other sports allow. You'll never see a baseball, basketball, football, or hockey official let players get chest to chest or be surrounded seven guys screaming their heads off. I don't think it's coincidental soccer is also the one in the news the most for their officials getting literally murdered on the field.

There has to be a rooting interest though. I can watch hockey without caring which team wins, but not baseball or football.

Could you tell if he ever had a discussion with his VAR team? He seemed at a complete loss out there. Surprising to say the least from someone of that caliber.
