Jimjamesak, as to the offside call on the Ecuador goal before half, how much influence on the gk (if any) is necessary? Is it purely a judgment call? The keeper was already diving to his right when the ball was deflected.

In this case the offside call is correct because the Ecuador player was in the line of sight of the GK on the initial shot before the deflection. Stuff like this is kind of a judgement call (“interfering with an opponent”) but when the player is in front of the GK it’s pretty easy.

Also, as an aside, if there was any concerns that the refs were paid off by Qatar, that call should dispel such concerns. Qatar needs Ecuador to win this match to have any hope at advancement.

One of the group tie breakers: Disciplinary points ('Fair Play'): As per a FIFA formula based on yellow and red cards. The team that has accumulated the fewest of these over the course of the group stage comes out ahead if this tiebreaker is used.
