  • Brazil ties it up against Colombia at the 78th minute after it hit the referee and Colombia stopped playing. They then spent the next five minutes surrounding the referee arguing with him through the VAR review and the ultimate decision of a good goal.

And now someone on the Colombia bench got a red card.

Should not have a been a goal. What an epic mistake from the referee of the last World Cup Final.

Chicago has 1 goal in their last 7 matches, and they won that one. That's efficient, anyway.

                    • Back on my favorite topic: LFG, the USWNT documentary, came out today.

                      The reviews are not kind.

The filmmakers made clear at the very start of the 105-minute project that the U.S. Soccer Federation, the team’s employer, declined to participate. But they also failed to explain both sides of a complicated issue.

At one point, the team’s lead counsel, Jeffrey Kessler, outlines the USSF’s position in the gender-discrimination case and the players’ side. No one outside the plaintiff’s circles was interviewed, except TV analyst Julie Foudy, a former player. Nary an expert on sports law appears.

                      ...

The USSF told The Washington Post it declined interview requests from the filmmakers because it wasn’t approached until late in the production. The organization also said it wasn’t given details about the film’s contents and was wary about going in blind.

“The approach taken by the filmmakers made us feel there wasn’t a sincere desire to fairly include information from the federation,” USSF spokesman Neil Buethe said.
When you can't even get one of your biggest supporters in the mainstream media (Goff is a longtime soccer writer for The Post and has covered the USWNT for years) to give a good review, it's a problem.

For their part the USSF responded on Twitter of all places.

My favorite reporter on the subject, Beau Dure, has the best summary of the whole subject:

When we see the next USSF financials, we'll see maybe $35m in assets, maybe $55m. The U.S. women want *all* of that - in *back pay*

                      ...

The narratives you've heard are false. So are the criticisms. It doesn't matter if the WNT loses to a youth men's team. Serena Williams would lose to Roger Federer, but so what? The big issue is FIFA, which pays vastly different bonuses even as the women's World Cup grows.
Edit: I'll add it Beau Dure's Medium article on it.

misleading claims of poverty. Jessica McDonald’s story is just as devoid of context in the film as it is in the trailer. The implication is that she still lived paycheck to paycheck not while playing only in the NWSL, which would be an interesting topic to explore, but after becoming a full-fledged member of the national team, even after earning hundreds of thousands in the World Cup year of 2019. Similarly, Rapinoe frets about making a living playing soccer, though the federation paid her $171,140 in the year ending March 31, 2019, before the World Cup. On the 990 form from the prior year, but at least four of her teammates cleared $250,000. On the most recent 990, for the year ending March 31, 2020, five of her teammates made at least $470,000.
