We may have up to ten hours' warning before we visually see Betelgeuse go poof.

NASAâ??s Webb Catches Fiery Hourglass as New Star Forms
NASAâ??s James Webb Space Telescope has revealed the once-hidden features of the protostar within the dark cloud L1527, providing insight into the beginnings of a new star. These blazing clouds within the Taurus star-forming region are only visible in infrared light, making it an ideal target for Webbâ??s Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam).

The protostar itself is hidden from view within the â??neckâ? of this hourglass shape. An edge-on protoplanetary disk is seen as a dark line across the middle of the neck. Light from the protostar leaks above and below this disk, illuminating cavities within the surrounding gas and dust.

Glad you liked it. When I saw it live, I was profoundly stirred.

    As to the latter....
We're in different states with different needs. Where I live it won't matter what my vote is, the Ds will win no matter how incompetent they are (and if you lived in Montgomery County you would know the truth of that statement).

Interesting to find out I grew up in a class 2 area (which, I'm sure 30 to 40 years ago was on the very low end of class 2) and now live in a class 7 area.

It's taken 15-20 years, but I'm now appreciating how much of nature I grew up surrounded by in the UP.

I thought we weren't supposed to do this because it just turned one impact into a hundred?

My favorite asteroid defense is fly something next to the incoming asteroid. The gravitational attraction is enough to pull the asteroid off an impact trajectory. That is finesse.
