      Also, they aren't entirely discrete. There are independent local effects but they sit on top of regional and also national waves.

      Now, I would think the regional effects in Appalachia should dampen the blue wave. It's the most backward place in America and thus the most safely conservative.

                            I don't doubt there are pockets of impressively stupid people in WI. Those exist everywhere: no doubt CA has the most fundies of any state. I meant is WI as deep in the Death Cult toilet as say AL or KS?

                              It’s my experience that when you go west of Madison, the answer is a resounding yes, with exception to small pockets around the few universities I’ve visited in the state.
