I'm here to say, as a straight blue ticket voter, that this is absolutely a fair cop.

Why. Does Executive Pardon. Exist? It serves no purpose that a politically-insulated mechanism could not fulfill better and it is an open invitation to weaponized criminality with no consequences. The only thing I find amazing about Dump is it took almost 250 years to find somebody to simply rip away all pretense and go full Capone.
Because it's one of the executive's check on the legislative and judiciary.

I find it amazing that after 250 years (and really longer than that, since it ties back to the powers of the monarch), you want to throw it away because Trump had the gaul to misuse it, which is akin to wanting to throw away jury trials because Salem had witch trials at one point.

      • President Trump says he will veto the annual national defense funding bill unless Section 230 is terminated, according to The AP, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post

President Donald Trump has threatened to veto the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) unless the bill includes the repeal of Section 230. S230 is a provision of a 1996 federal law that helps shield a broad range of digital platforms and services from lawsuits over user-created posts on their sites. The NDAA bill has passed congress 59 years in a row. The current proposal includes a 3% pay raise for US troops and authorizes $740 billion in national security programs in the 2021 fiscal year, The Washington Post reports.

          • Didn't it pass with a veto-proof majority?

I know rational thought isn't his strong suit, but is he really going to go out so completely and utterly neutered?

You have to believe that somewhere Trump has someone digging through records looking for pardons to spite people. Maybe find the criminal that Kamala Harris is most proud to have prosecuted, or something like that.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

This is the second (mass troop withdrawals) thing Dump has done in the last two weeks that I agree with unreservedly.

                      • This was hinted at in reporting beginning about 2 months ago, but now it has been confirmed. The Nazis rushed the Census so much in their effort to rig it for themselves that they f-cked it up so badly it will not be completed until the next administration. That means a full review of all the slime they pulled and thwarting their plan to even further destroy democracy and stack Congress and the EC with their meth-infused ant hill population density bias.

We are very lucky our first Hitler is a baboon, but we have to fix this before a competent one shows up.

                            • When it comes to pardons, they have to be for specific acts, correct? I ask because reading that Hair Furor wants to pardon his family and (((Jared))) leaves me with a taste of wanting to see it happen, assuming that is what happens and not just some blanket pardon. I’d be very interested to see which crimes they committed that he’s will to cop to. Also, there are likely tertiary crimes associated with those listed that prosecutors could then get these people because Trump and his legal team just haven’t proven themselves good enough to cover all their bases.

I don’t believe that’s true. He can pardon anyone for any federal crime they may committed, as Ford did with Nixon.
