Just after Thanksgiving, he was diagnosed with Covid. On Friday, my mom signed paperwork to add hospice care to his team. They allowed her to visit him on Friday and again Sunday (she wore the full PPE the nursing staff would wear). This morning, he passed away. Just shy of 70 years old (would have turned 70 on Dec 31). Sure, some might say his quality of life wasn't the best even before the diagnosis. But he had willed himself to live through so much more. IT DID NOT HAVE TO HAPPEN THIS WAY.

      • The Trump administration may have bungled the spread and containment of the coronavirus, but they were laser focused on Operation Warp Speed and getting a vaccine as fast as possible, and out to the American people. Donnie hinged much or his re-election campaign on this fact. They were gonna get the vaccine rollout right. Right?

        Well, not so fast.

Trump administration officials passed when Pfizer offered in late summer to sell the U.S. government additional doses of its Covid-19 vaccine, according to people familiar with the matter. Now Pfizer may not be able provide more of its vaccine to the United States until next June because of its commitments to other countries, they said.

        • Rebekah Jones, the Florida data analyst fired from her position with the Florida Department of Health, had her computer equipment sized by Florida State Police at gunpoint today.

A little more reading shows the warrant and subsequent seizure of computer equipment were the result of an investigation of an unauthorized access to Florida's emergency alert system where messages were sent through the system to first responders urging them to blow the whistle on lies being spread statewide.

Is this going to be another situation where the whistleblower faces more consequences than the perpetrator of said awful deeds (see: Steubenville)?

If this was on the up and up, then I assume we would have heard more about it.
The headline doesn't at all match up with what some googling tells us.

It's still in phase 2/3 clinical trials, so it's not close to being available (even with an EUA). Also, the clinical trials are with already-infected patients, so it does nothing for those pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic, and thus kind of dumping some cold water on the headline. My uneducated guess is that its very positive and probably effective as a treatment for those with mild-medium symptoms, and is similar to the cocktail that Trump received when he was sick.

Reading too that when vaccines become available, states are not going to receive as many as they were promised.

And the amount of people listening are.... almost none. At least the ones who are not taking it seriously.

                          • Fact check: True. The data is stunning: 97% mask compliance in San Francisco, NY, DC, 96% in Miami and Philly, 95% in Chicago.

CLOTH AND SURGICAL MASKS DO NOT WORK. PERIOD.

It is time to start asking a serious question. Do masks, often reused in the general public, increase the spread of disease especially in an already very unhealthy population? Years of research prior to 2020 said exactly that.

His quality of life was that he was your dad, and your family loved him. Those are pretty good qualities. Sincere condolences on your loss and my most heartfelt prayers for you and your family.

                              • Until recently there were only 7 states with over 1,000 deaths per million residents (NY, NJ, MA, RI, IL, MI, and CT). But Republican leadership has managed to add LA, ND, SD, and MS and indeed the entire US should be over 1000 by New Years Day.
