Here is the CDC write up on the 17/18 flu season, there were an estimated 810,000 hospitalizations, versus less than 750,000 COVID hospitalizations and this is over a MUCH longer period than 2018 season, & also check out COVID-19 as shown in this cartoon

Context is so important. Yes hospitals are busy now. But not unusually busy. Surges happen quite regularly. The only difference is that for some reason this year there is the need to shut down society because of it.

I was flying through Arlanda on my way to Kiruna last month and about 25% of people were wearing masks in the airports, despite there being signs requiring them. This was right before they started to implement additional measures but I was surprised by how few people wore masks in the airport and nobody ever wore them anywhere else during the week I was up there.

It turns out that watching “Contagion” on this work holiday while developing congestion, headache, and shortness of breath wasn’t the best choice. I’m starting to feel less hopeful that this is nothing, and more wondering if I’ll survive.
