          • OK, Trump lied - so what? Presidents have lied about much worse, like Slick Willy getting a BJ from an intern. And Obola about his citizenship.

So there were some deaths - so what? Everyone knows New Yorkers, Californians, and those from the Peoples' Republic of Houston aren't really Americans anyway, so they don't count.

You libstains need to stop being hysterical.

As for your claim there have only been two "high level" athletes to contract miocarditis....well...more ignorance on your part. Are any of us surprised? Not in the least. The Penn St. doctor never indicated he was talking specifically about any athletes at Penn St. When he stated the "30-35%" number, he was referencing the number he'd been told in a conversation with Dr. Daniels from Ohio St. And yes, that number was actually 15% instead of 30-35%.

Regardless, the two "high level" athletes you mention are NOT the only ones. Again, the specialist from Ohio St. is stating emphatically that of the BIG10 athletes -- ALL BIG10 athletes -- that have tested positive for Covid to this point, 15% of them have also tested positive for myocarditis. He's can't legally release the names due to privacy concerns. Now, once the study is finished with its peer review process, the names of those who've come down with myocarditis may be released. But, maybe not. Oh, and if you read the first article, you'll see that...

"A 27-year-old former Florida State basketball player, Michael Ojo, who had recovered from the virus, died of an apparent heart attack at a practice in Serbia."

Huh, look at that. Another "high level" athlete who had myocarditis AND ACTUALLY DIED BECAUSE OF IT....

And myocarditis wasn't the only reason the BIG10 and Pac-12 postponed. It actually had as much and maybe more to do with testing requirements and turnaround times that even some of these schools couldn't meet. But again, that would actually require you to read from a information source that doesn't match your brain-washed narrative.

              Here's the first article...

              https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/23/s...ronavirus.html

              From the article...

"Daniels, the director of sports cardiology at Ohio State, had also been busy, working to publish a three-month study whose preliminary findings were presented to Pac-12 and Big Ten leaders before they shut down football earlier this month. Daniels said that cardiac M.R.I.s, an expensive and sparingly used tool, revealed an alarmingly high rate of myocarditis — heart inflammation that can lead to cardiac arrest with exertion — among college athletes who had recovered from the coronavirus.

The survey found myocarditis in close to 15 percent of athletes who had the virus, almost all of whom experienced mild or no symptoms, Daniels added, perhaps shedding more light on the uncertainties about the short- and long-term effects the virus may have on athletes."

              Article number two:

              https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/17/o...t-disease.html

              From the article....

"I recently treated one Covid-19 patient in his early 50s. He had been in perfect shape with no history of serious illness. When the fevers and body aches started, he locked himself in his room. But instead of getting better, his condition deteriorated and he eventually accumulated gallons of fluid in his legs. When he came to the hospital unable to catch a breath, it wasn’t his lungs that had pushed him to the brink — it was his heart. Now we are evaluating him to see if he needs a heart transplant."

An intriguing new study from Germany offers a glimpse into how SARS-CoV-2 affects the heart. Researchers studied 100 individuals, with a median age of just 49, who had recovered from Covid-19. Most were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms.

An average of two months after they received the diagnosis, the researchers performed M.R.I. scans of their hearts and made some alarming discoveries: Nearly 80 percent had persistent abnormalities and 60 percent had evidence of myocarditis. The degree of myocarditis was not explained by the severity of the initial illness.

Though the study has some flaws, and the generalizability and significance of its findings not fully known, it makes clear that in young patients who had seemingly overcome SARS-CoV-2 it’s fairly common for the heart to be affected. We may be seeing only the beginning of the damage
Well Not Prescence, thanks for your continued smarminess and condescension. So what is it? 30-35% of Big 10 athletes or "close to" 15%? The "scare" number was initially quoted as 30-35% to send some here scampering back to the corner. But then this is pulled back to 15%, still "Scary" so they still stay in the corner. But then the double But, "we can't release the figures because of confidentiality", ahhhhh how convenient. But you DID release or LEAKED inflated figures to grab headlines and increase the public's fear. Referencing anonymous sources, or "experts" like the Penn State doctor who had to revise his numbers (did he mis-remember his OSU conversation?) and then hiding behind HIPPA regulations? Still very convenient, huh?

The NYT article relies heavily on Ohio State athletes as being the test subjects. All positives were given expensive MRI's to be sure? Or just a sprinkling who agreed to be tested and then we extrapolate the fear factor numbers, like Dr Neil Ferguson did before the midnight visit to his mistress? Why would any player with even a slight chance of the pros allow his name to be divulged (dam HIPPA again) to put a big health flag next to his name and then further screw up his chances by releasing MRI results showing Myocarditis? And for the others who would allow their name to be released, where are these sobbing players sitting at a press conference with their loved ones crying into the camera that "you just don’t know how dangerous this corona really is, dun stole my NFL dreams"?

The next article brings in some terrific information about someone in their EARLY FIFTIES (huh) and a study in Germany with an average age of 49 (double huh)? Not sure what this has to do with college age athletes like we are discussing and the potential for heart issues. Is there a vast, untapped pool of star football prospects in their 40's and 50's with unused college eligibility? Many call in to sports radio for sure, but NOW the only thing holding back their Heisman dreams is a study out of Germany?

Lets get back to the KNOWN figures on myocarditis issues. I gave TWO athletes (still alive), and then you gave ONE more (died), but he was overseas and I am not sure if Serbia is enforcing a mask policy, so can we really count him in our figures? Even if we do, lets use a nice "SCARE" number! Myocarditis figures in peer reviewed and trusted USCHO thread rise 50%! We are now up to 3, yes, THREE, from your vast pool of supposedly affected athletes. From the Myocarditis Foundation website, 75 athletes in the 13-25 age group die of Myocarditis EVERY year, even without Corona. You have given us ONE example, AND he is even out of the age range, but for arguments sake, I will give it to you. Where are the other 74 next to die, all in the SEC, Big 12 and ACC? I guess no high level prospects in any of those leagues would need an insurance policy that they would surely be unable to obtain because of the high risk. Who is the insurance actuary that believes covering a group with up to a 15% complication or death rate that would trigger a payout as being fiscally prudent? Maybe all of the actuaries at THOSE insurance companies are just big Bama fans who don’t mind paying out grande dinero so we can Roll Tide!

Chuck, you have some background in insurance I believe. Does this seem like a plausible scenario?

15% of whom? Remember, we can't talk about specifics because of HIPPA regulations. So far, only have a SINGLE college football player that I am aware of (Indiana lineman) who officially has Myocarditis. If you can find me a more extensive list from somewhere other than the Serbian pro basketball league, I am all for seeing it.

Because this is a college HOCKEY site, can I still ask if this would be a bomb-throwing DOUBLE Dribble? Or more like a late night bomb throwing in Portland Oregon from any of the last 100 days?

Rob Bradford of WEEI reports that the health complication causing Eduardo Rodriguez (COVID-19) to be shut down is related to his heart.

Bradford writes that "there seems to be a strong possibility the specific affliction is called myocarditis," which is inflammation of the heart muscle. Myocarditis is a condition often brought on by a viral infection and there have been many COVID-19 patients diagnosed with it. The Red Sox previously referred to Rodriguez's condition as "minor," and the hope seems to be that he will be fine after receiving medication and rest.

                              • Whalers....is reading comprehension really that difficult? Also, why is everything a conspiracy? How do you figure the Ohio St. doctor "released or LEAKED inflated figures to grab headlines"?? The Ohio St. doctor simply provided the information to a reporter when interviewed. The Penn St. doctor made a simple mistake in stating inaccurate numbers. So what? Are YOU perfect?!? Based on your response it's quite evident you aren't. So no, it (the 30-35% number) wasn't "pulled back". It was initially stated by the Ohio St. doctor as 15%. And yes, all of the players that tested positive were given cardiac MRIs. It's in the **** article. Again, reading comprehension.

You put quotes around the word "expert" in relation to the Penn St. doctor...first, nobody either directly stated or, even inferred he was an "expert" on infectious diseases. Still, although he may not be an expert in infectious diseases, he's sure as hell has more medical expertise than you do or, ever will.

And yes, normally an athlete of that caliber wouldn't want their name revealed. However, this is a once in a hundred year pandemic...meaning, "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few". So what? Are YOU perfect?!? Based on your response it's quite evident you aren't.

Yes, the people in the German study were in their 40s and 50s. That's still a hell'uva lot younger than the average age of those who actually die of the virus. And, what's your medical expertise to say that just because the average age is 20 years older and the overall general fitness level is different means the comparison completely falls apart? Next, nobody is saying it's a 15% chance of death. Especially in relation to your insurance comment. You can possibly die from it but, it's just as likely to lead to potential life-long cardio issues. For the thousandth time, you can't measure the risk on deaths alone. Obviously, people in your camp keep doing so but, it doesn't make any of you right. Still, that's the bigger issue for these schools...liability. The BIG10 schools are being told by their lawyers that there isn't any precedent regarding this specific issue so, to continue to play might expose them in a significant way to Covid related legal issues.
