So I didn't think so, and started googling (I had thought XBB was just yet another version of Omicron, as by now virtually all other variants are genuinely extinct). And naturally, Fox News has an article about it. I won't link it, but the headline explicitly states that XBB is "more likely to infect the vaccinated". I mean, seriously. The level of disingenuous, purposefully obtuse nonsense in just those few words, so carefully selected...

But anyway, we were both right.
      https://www.who.int/news/item/27-10-...s-bq.1-and-xbb
It is a recombinant version... of two other Omicron subvariants. Also, here's the money shot from that article:
The potential impact of these variants is strongly influenced by the regional immune landscape. While reinfections have become an increasingly higher proportion of all infections, this is primarily seen in the background of non-Omicron primary infections. With waning immune response from initial waves of Omicron infection, and further evolution of Omicron variants, it is likely that reinfections may rise further.
This is probably where Fox News took the seed of info they distorted into straight disinformation.

      • I'm not sure I could make that logical leap from "regional immune landscape" to "vaccines are more likely to get it"

then again, my brain hasn't been absolutely poisoned beyond repair. Though, maybe there's hope. A Kristol probably voted for a democrat this past year.

        • I assume they were keying off "while reinfections have become an increasingly higher proportion of all infections". Like back in 2021 when some studies were saying that vaccinated people had a similar viral load to unvaccinated people, without indicating that said vaccinated viral load lasted like 1/5 the time and was mostly dead virus. Or when they whined that most people in hospitals with covid were vaccinated, ergo vaccines didn't work (without sharing that the vaccination rate in the population they were talking about was like 80%).

But the point of the vaccine... back in October, people were 18x more likely to die unvaccinated than fully, 6x than just a simple vaccine. Since 80% of the population is vaccinated, a majority of people dying are not vaccinated, even though they are only 20% of the population. Assuming I'm doing that math right.

I don't know where to look for hospitalization data, but the case rate reported is about 2.4-3:1 un vs. vaccinated. So barley more vaccinated are getting infected even though being 80% of the population. So my logic tells me that the hospitalization is somewhat wider than 3:1.

Returning to who the misleading data hits the most- those would be the ones 18x more likely do die anyway. Which ends up reducing their viewer and voting numbers by somewhere around >100k/year. Kind of a bad business plan.

            • Totally agree on your last paragraph. This seems incredibly short sighted by the right, but I suppose if you add the idea that it's being fed to these useful idiots by Russian and/or Chinese psyops with the goal of destabilizing the US, then I suppose things make a bit more sense.

                • I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

Note: China currently claims 5,200 deaths from Don't Mention the You Know What.

The US has 3,362 deaths per million population. China claims 4. Assume their real number is 4,000.

                  That's 5.2M deaths.

Does it really count as a COVID death if they die of dehydration or malnourishment after CCP officials seal up their doors and windows to lock them inside their homes? /sarc

Yes, it's confusing because they "admitted" to a number but then their formal definition of a COVID death reduced that number to about 65. The international health associations said "OK, which is it?" and China said "just print what we say, we can change what we call a COVID death any time we want," and the world said "nu-unh."

So now you have 6200 deaths by China's formal definition, and 65k last month alone by their official statement.

It's authoritarianism. They tell you how many lights you see. See also: De Santis' Florida solving COVID by shutting down its reporting dashboard.

                        • You know, it's just people dying from pneumonia, or the regular flu. Not from COVID.

Weird how when the global elite meet they insist on testing, filtering and circulating the air but tell the rest of us masks are useless and besides, we've beaten COVID so go back to work, you slackers.

                            • What is the current situation in your region? For example, everything is calm with me, but I still continue to drink vitamins from Canadian Pharmacy Online , spend a lot of time actively, visit the gym. I also started eating healthier and this all helped me to strengthen my immunity. I haven't gotten sick once in 2022 and that's great
