I know there will be plenty of onesie twosie examples of perfectly healthy people dying of covid. I am sorry that occurred, but that is statistically no different than my supremely healthy good friend recently dying from a cancer that you ONLY GET from heavy smoking or radon poisoning. Neither pertained to him, but he still died. These events can be filed under "winning the lottery", happens to everyone eventually, just not always a good thing.

What metrics would you use?
It is pretty clear that as this has evolved into less serious variants and more and more of the population has some immunity (either through exposure or vaccination) that it has become not much more than a cold or flu for the overwhelming majority of us. In my opinion it is at the point where it should be treated as such.
I feel badly for the friend who had the 104 fever, but on the flip side that was partially his choice. Should my non sick kids really have to miss a week of school because others are too stupid or stubborn to get the free, safe, readily available vaccine.
Obviously if you are sick, stay home (just as you should with any illness) but quarantining based on exposure etc has outlived its usefulness.
Yes, it's evolved into something less deadly, but it's still quite deadly for the unvaxxord. But hey, if you are willing to die so that people like dumpy can pretend to be billionaires- go for it. Facts are facts, data are data.
I honestly hope that this is the actual thing that makes people stay home when they are sick, though. It was bad enough before when sick people came to work, and spread it around the facility- making productivity take a real dump. But given the degree that people really, really, really wanted to risk their lives so that someone else can make millions or billions of dollars- I doubt that will actually happen.
Since we don't have kids, I really can't have an honest opinion for how your kids should deal with it.

Just a point of clarification.
It isn't at all clear that Covid has "evolved into a less serious variant". Earned immunity makes it less severe; it is not intrinsically less severe (at least, it has not been proven to be so).
This is an important distinction.I gotta little bit of smoke and a whole lotta wine...

I absolutely agree the people who aren't vaccinating because of their stupidity should be reunited with the angry sky man of their choice as expeditiously as possible. I love their eternal souls that much to spare them the misery of this flawed world.Cornell University

How many people are really medically unable to get a vaccine? (I really don't know this question).
BTW, looking at the CDC data- for people who have gotten the second booster- there does not seem to be a trend that it's less effective. There was a period in the middle of May that *might* have meant that- but since then, the death rate for two boosts has dropped back off and is quite stable. If the booster effectiveness lowered over time, one would expect that the double boosted deaths would pick up. While we also want to get the new designer booster, at least it appears that we are still quite safe.
