There is so much we don’t know about the virus and if reasonable precautions prevent the spread we’d do well to take them. If people wore masks in large, indoor public gatherings and stayed home when they are sick we would keep it under control.

edit- there's still a huge crowd that think just because you get infected, the vaccine doesn't work. And that it's worth taking a chance of not being vaccinated- even though you end up getting it more than once- because the 2nd and 3rd time are minor, it's obviously harmless. As if 1M dead Americans are meaningless.

Hadnt been to the Cafe in a while and I am dumbfounded that this thread is still going on. A quick perusal of the last few pages blows my mind that you are still concerned with covid and CASES. One poster even said the law of averages came due because he FINALLY got covid, AFTER 2-1/2 YEARS!
The only person worldwide who hasnt been exposed to covid, was the contactless Brazilian tribesman who finally died the other day, and maybe the last Japanese soldier hiding out in his cave on Guadalcanal. Easy advice - get out of the basement! Or maybe move to deepest, darkest Peru, or Brazil. Is there decent internet connectivity within those Guadalcanal caves? Might be able to keep this thread going longer from there.
Good luck. I hope the cool-aid doesnt run out before November.

There are SO many things I just don't get- beyond the data- which is STILL heavily leaning toward vaccinated and boosted (there's a 15x greater risk for unvaxxord over 50 to die- it's pretty clear), it's really clear that the "mild cold" symptoms are almost exclusive to vaccinated people. But it's the excuse people give to NOT get vaccinated. Insanity.
The death data isn't bad, if that's against the entire population. It's really bad when you look at just the unvaccinated population (which is ~34%, I think), but the gross majority of deaths.
But, hey, don't let people's personal experience and the data get in away of a good excuse to follow an authoritarian.

Boy, ain’t that a fact. In the last two days, two people got sick on another board. One of them was vaccinated, and barely got sick, the other wasn’t but got up to a miserable 104- both threads had a lot of antivaxxors who all claim to be right even though there still is a good chance of death for the unvaccinated.
edit- there's still a huge crowd that think just because you get infected, the vaccine doesn't work. crazy.
Given that this is never going away, and we are not faced with a lack of hospital recourses for those who do get very sick (as well as having treatment options we did not have at the start of the pandemic).... at what point would you think we should "go back to normal" stop quarantining / staying out of work or school etc for 5 days based on a potential exposure? What metrics would you use?
It is pretty clear that as this has evolved into less serious variants and more and more of the population has some immunity (either through exposure or vaccination) that it has become not much more than a cold or flu for the overwhelming majority of us. In my opinion it is at the point where it should be treated as such.
I feel badly for the friend who had the 104 fever, but on the flip side that was partially his choice. Should my non sick kids really have to miss a week of school because others are too stupid or stubborn to get the free, safe, readily available vaccine.
Obviously if you are sick, stay home (just as you should with any illness) but quarantining based on exposure etc has outlived its usefulness.
