  • This past Thursday I went out for a drink after work with a friend. While there, I ran into a cousin of mine I hadn’t seen in a long time. Hugs all around! This morning I texted her sister to wish her a Happy Easter about 10 minutes before going to my mom’s to get her to go to my aunt’s. “We’re all positive “ she tells me. Ugh!

I took a home test, it was negative. I was nervous about going to get my mom. My aunt was ok with me going. I’m double masked and sitting off by myself at a little table, just removed it to eat. I’m super nervous. I told my mom she had to wear a mask in the car.

I’m going to take another home test tomorrow and Tuesday. I feel fine now but as I’m thinking about it and I’m thinking “is that a cold coming on?” I was in church both Friday and Saturday night but wore my mask both nights. Stressing about all of this. Gah!

    • One of the trolls on here asked wonderingly why no one cares about those who die of fentanyl overdoses. I care. I work with that population almost daily at my job. A record 65,000 or so people died last year from opiate and synthetic opiate overdoses, most of those likely being fentanyl. Tragic. Awful. Until that number becomes 415,000 in a year, it’s not as tragic or awful as Covid, unless you can’t count. Do better.

And don't we have laws for fentanyl access? And these same trolls are probably begging to have more laws for fentanyl (as well as other drugs), right?

But when they can also prevent deaths from COVID, they do the exact opposite. Literally killing people.

Curious that some deaths "matter" and others are encouraged.

I think the troll's point was that because so many people survive fentanyl, we should stop whining about it and do nothing.

After all, its not the fentanyl that kills you. Its the cardiac arrest, or the cessation of breathing.
What kind of cheese are you planning to put on top?

Yeah, I am super concerned about Covid but don't give a **** about fentanyl.

I'm wondering when drunk driving rules will be scaled back- it's not the alcohol that kills in drunk driving, it's the impact with the steering wheel and windshield that does it. Plus, it should be a personal choice to risk your own life to get blindly drunk and drive around risking your life.

Besides, drunk driving kills very few people- it's only a part of the ~35k vehicle deaths every year.

                        • As I mentioned above, I was exposed on Thursday night - hugged a cousin who found out she was positive on Saturday night. I've taken a home test Sunday, Monday and today. All negative. I think I should be in the clear, don't you think? Or should I test a couple more days? Or get tested with a PCR test? I have no symptoms.

Five days used to be the median to symptoms. I think that's shortened to closer to just over 3 days. If you're concerned about exposing someone specific, I would recommend getting one more PCR either today or tomorrow. That's what we usually do. 4 days for rapid, if we need to know with certainty then we follow-up w/ a PCR at day 5, and a rapid before visiting anyone the day of the visit.

                            • Rapid tests struggle to pick up the antigens in asymptomatic people who are vaccinated and boosted, but at the same time those same people (vaxxed/boosted, infected but asymptomatic) are substantially less likely to infect others

So basically, if you're 5 days beyond possible exposure with two negative tests and no symptoms, I would feel confident that you're in the clear.

Also, remember that it's possible that your cousin was not yet infectious when you hugged them.
