I think one of our big struggles with Covid is that we want to look at things in black and white terms and that really isn't how covid works. People might not like it but the CDC can't really say things are completely safe or unsafe.

If you're vaccinated and aren't sitting right next to someone for a couple minutes straight, the risk outdoors is extremely low. It seems almost impossible to be exposed to the viral load required to cause an infection, other than a prolonged close contact, if you're outdoors and then factor in the protection a vaccine offers. I wouldn't worry.

Outdoor mask mandates are over in other countries with decent vaccination rates (Israel, the UK). You're going to see us follow suit soon.

I do still wear one outdoors if I'm around other people, even if I just briefly put it on to pass someone on a narrow hiking trail, but I do think it's probably totally unnecessary for a brief contact that lasts a couple seconds outdoors.

I'm interested to see how the summer goes. I live in a small town thats inundated with tourists every summer (impossible to maintain social distancing on the sidewalk many days). Last summer we had signs up that said "Congested Area, Please Mask" and the town also put out free mask stations several places around town.

That being said ****er Carlson is a menace to society. I may wear a mask outdoors forever just to spite him.

        • Based on my office people think just because they're vaccinated or had Covid before they can just run around without a mask on the indoors. Kind of ticks me off. I don't get it. I also had had a nice run of not being sick but over the weekend I had what I assume was the stomach flu which I have learned recently isn't the flu. Not fun. Not sure where I got it from.

That wouldn't fly at my office. Unless you're in a private office, or eating (which has to be done at a table by yourself), masks are mandatory regardless of vaccination status.

They're also still doing weekly covid tests for the on-site people. The number of symptomatic positives has been running 0-1 per week, and asymptomatic 0-2.

I still haven't been back to my office in over a year (they actually gave it away to spread out people that have to go on site). I'm guessing I end up mostly remote with the option to use a "hotel office" 1-2 days per week if I want.

Responsibly run states will issues notices to the public not to call in such frivolous things. And when people do call them in, the 911 operators will inform callers that they’re not to call in on people actively being cautiously safe. And since 911 catalogs callers, reasons for calls, and abusers of the systems, those people who continue to call in to report the parents of children being safe will have their 911 rights stripped from them. It’s happened to a neighbor of mine for calling in bonfires that do not violate any city codes. My city’s FD doesn’t much like that guy anymore.

It's all part of "own the libs" culture that was started 30 years ago by Rush and pushed further over the toxic cliff by Trump and others pouring can after can of gasoline on the fire.

I like being nekkid while I work. I keep the blinds closed, and the dog is only mildly annoyed.

Work includes posting on this site. Old, pasty-white saggy skin, big belly, no butt, long thin hair, crooked teeth, red eyes behind coke-bottle glasses, for the curious among you.

I don't think Minnesota ever had an outdoor mask mandate. I think it was just indoors and on public transportation.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

                            • MA will rescind the outdoor mask mandate as of 4/30. Honestly, I feel this is the right move. As has been stated, outdoor spread is very rare even among the unvaccinated and without masking, and - at least here - we're now at a majority with at least one dose. Between the likely ineffectual nature of outdoor masking and a high vaccine rate - adding to a dropping case load, hospitalization numbers and positivity rate - the time is now to start opening the relatively safe things back up.

Baker's plan was leaked and pulled back, but I managed to see it and I believe it to be sound (assuming its accuracy).
