This reminds me. I woke up with a charlie horse two days ago. My calf still hurts. A lot. Like enough that right now it hurts, going on 40 hours later, and it has hurt all that intervening time without letting up. Is it possible for a cramp to give you a deep muscle bruise or actually **** up your calf?

My back does that from time to time. A muscle decides to spasm and it locks up for 8 hours and I'll feel it for 3-5 days.

If I had a muscle spasm for 8 hours I would kill myself. I'm not exaggerating. I have had cramps that lasted less than 5 minutes where if I had a knife I'd have slit my throat.

          (I have no pain tolerance.)

This 2-day pain isn't the cramp, thank god -- the cramp is agony. It's the afterglow of a dull, deep ache, as if somebody billy-clubbed my calf 30 times and then left it to soak. There's no sharpness making me reach for a razorblade, it's just that loooooooooooooooong deep ache.

              • So I had an unrelated Doctor's appointment this morning (I swear she gave me a vaccine against "Skrillex"), and I told her about my lingering muscle pain and asked her if it was worrisome. She's been my doctor a long time, and she gave me a withering look which said "you actually are an idiot, there's no doubt about it."

                It's a fair cop.

Dam, I haven't kept a supply of tylenol for years. I'm pretty sure we all had a long discussion on acetaminophen back in March or April when there was talk about ibuprofen making COVID worse.

Anyways, that was a rough night of sleep. Whenever I woke up to turn over, it took an act of god to move. It was like the second day after vigorous exercise if I hadn't exercised in months. Also, very vivid and bizarre dreams.

For me the worst are migraines. I can get through the spasms with a nice hot heating pad and a lot of ibuprofen. The migraines knock me on my *** for a day. I usually end up in bed with the lights off trying to figure out how to not puke.

                  • I was nosing around on Dr. Google and most say any NSAID is ok after the vax. I take 800mg of ibuprofen a day for my back so I can't really say if it helped or not. I didn't run a fever, arm was only sore for about 24 hrs after both shots and just minor swelling at the injection site after the 1st.
                    Maybe it did help.

I'm not a Dr., but this can be a symptom of a blood clot (I have a genetic blood condition and had multiple before getting put permanently on thinners). Pain in the calf, often mistaken for a cramp or charlie horse. Persists as a lingering ache. Other things to check for are increased circumference of the affected calf vs the non-affected, and localized temp increase - though these are not guaranteed symptoms.

If it persists, worth mentioning to your physician. An ultrasound can be ordered to rule a clot out.
A clot originating around the knee can affect the lower leg in this way and carries the risk of developing into pulmonary embolism (again, speaking from experience).

                          • 0.5ml of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine went into my arm 50 min ago. Felt like a TDAP vaccination when it went in, but so far only slight tingling at the injection site (no serious arm pain). No other adverse reactions. Well, so far, anyway...

                            • My arm felt like it was a punching bag the day after Pfizer dose 1. I felt like an absolute baby. Couldn't lift it, general soreness (not even site specific). Far worse than any flu vaccine. Day 2 it was fine.

Dose 2 was mildly sore the next day but not bad and nothing like after dose 1.
I gotta little bit of smoke and a whole lotta wine...

24 hours in and it's only moderately sore now. Full range of movement is back. but holy cow was that sore 12 hours ago.
